Based on the massive amount of feedback these updates are getting...it sounds like a dumpster fire thats just getting bigger.
It's honestly not. It's a bunch of impatient people blowing things out of proportion.

You can make it look like SE, but you can't make it feel like it.

Believe me, I used to think SE was just a damn reskin, but with all the mods available to SE that LE doesn't have, it feels like a whole new game.

For example, SkySA (which, unlike the LE version, doesn't crash every 2 minutes), SmoothCam (better than 3PCO for LE) and various gameplay mods just make it feel so much better.

At least, in my opinion.

Clothes aren't very buggy. I like lite modding since big changes alter the game too much. I tried sharing a horse. BUggy. I tried gameplay overhaul after another.

CLothing. Realistic swimming. Coins having weight. Water.

I recently added the more bandit camps and I have a feeling that that mod is gonna break quests. A bandit camp where there was only an empty field before!! The swimming may end up hurting me in the long run. Found a cave and the only way down involves jumping into a pool of water with no way back up. Exploring in a bikini with a dagger and a magic shield spell seems like fun until one has to decide what to leave behind just to leave.. Paying for expensive items is a b****.

Modding ones game changes ones game. Sometimes Bethesda wants to mod ones own game :)

This is badass but some people want a bit more than basic modding aswell as wanting to play all the mods people spent hundreds of hours making

Your problem is you listen to the whiners on the forums. The people here crying and moaning about "bugs" and "mods" are like 0.00002% of the total player base. Just play the game and stop trying to worry about some dumb "meta". It's fantastic.

Or you can set it to update on launch, launch through SKSE instead, and never worry about this
ever again.
HazakTheMad 15 DIC 2021 a las 12:22
Make sure Steam is running before hand, and check your settings every so often to make sure
you actually set it that way, and settings can reset themselves randomly with Steam, also set
the update window to a time you will never play at, that should protect it.

But "never" isn't wholly accurate, is it? Steam can, and does at times, reset your update preferences. This means you set it to launch only on update, only start the game through SKSE, even only play when in offline mode, and you think you're safe. Then, one day, you log in to check your wish list, and you've got an update.

This has happened to me twice already, though at the time the updates didn't include this compiler mess and I always backed up my .exes, so no big deal, but not only can steam do it, steam has done it, multiple times.

I said never worry, I have not updated Skyrim without me choosing to, while some have it updated on them, I know of several others that haven't updated in years.
I play in online mode, offline mode is more likely for it to reset your update settings than actually
help.
Plus back ups always help, so even if you updated there is no reason to be worried if you took
all the necessary precautions.

As to rolling back to version 1.5.97, that is NOT recommended. Only those players who have an existing game, and have taken all necessary steps to protect it, should still be on that version - and those of us who are on the older version accept full responsibility for it and any issues that may occur. Only the current version is supported by Steam, Bethesda, the Unofficial Patch team - and should people have a version specific problem, only those on the current version will receive support and that includes support from the people who help on a regular basis in this forum. We simply do not have the time to be helping those who are on an older non-supported version when it comes to version specific issues. That is a choice that those people using the now obsolete version have made and accepted full responsibility for.

To be honest, almost all cases where a people said the game "updated itself" even though they had it set to only do so on launch, were due to user error - usually because they did not have Steam already running. And in some few cases, where it DID update, it was because a client update from Steam reverted the setting as to launch - hence why that should be checked on a regular basis. Personally, I have had my game set to not update for over two years now and never had an issue - and I am always online with Steam. But, just as insurance, I have EVERYTHING backed up - which includes all the vanilla game .BSAs and .ESMs as well as the other vanilla game files.

So, check settings often and have a backup just in case something unforeseen happens.

This is ever so important. I have seen many times where by checking these settings people posted that because they check often they had actually saved themselves from forced updates.

Just because they often check.

Part of the joys of modding.

You can EASILY turn off the updates... hell you can avoid them altogether.
