i need help with downgrade patcher.
in order to use the mods i have to downgrade skyrim using the patcher, the problem is that when it comes to "selecting the game file" i can't find it.
literally i've searched everywhere;
the patcher should even find it automatically in most cases, but not in mine.

there will be soon christmas sales, if i can't solve the problem i will just upgrade to the anniversay edition when it is discounted.
if i decide to update skyrim to anniversary edition, will the problem solve by itslef?

No, upgrading to AE wouldnt fix anything. You can right click on Skyrim in your library, manage -> browse local file. This would lead you directly to where your skyrim.exe is located. Open your downgrade patcher and lead it to the .exe. That should be it

On Windows 10, Find your steam Icon, either on dektop or taskbar, rightclick and click properties.
Click "Open File Location" - this will take you to where Steam is installed. I installed mine in root folder of my game SSD, so G:\Steam\
Your installed games will be in G:\Steam\steamapps\common\
So you will need to point the patcher to G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition for it to locate the exe file of your game.

Same here, we'll have to wait for the guy who made the patcher to update it

From the Comment section of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher
for people still getting the "System.Exception: Can't patch file, it doesn't match the expected format" error, download the optional Patch342to323 file, then patch your game. after that, use the new updated patcher that is in the files tab. worked for me to get version to 1.57.97

Go to the mod page for more info:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57618?tab=files

i think that i don't have a SkyrimiSE.exe file, i only have skyrimSE and SkyriSE launcher.
Quevik Dec 15, 2021 @ 8:38am
SkyrimSE is the file you need. it IS the EXE. If you game was updated complately, then you also need to make sure you download the version that was added ON or AFTER december 13th. The patch on that day broke the downpatcher that was up previously. The new one should work.

If you're trying to use the version you downloaded on the 9th, I'm really sorry but you need to download the newest version. (Which sucks given the file size)

ok so:

i have unistalled and reistalled the game making sure there were no troublesome files in the folder, i then downloaded the patcher 342 to 323 that was suggested, i found skyrim SE and patched it, once the patcher told me it was done i reinstalled the script extender for skyrim special edition, i run skyrim, but it gives me an error, it says that i am playing on a different version or something.
Quevik Dec 15, 2021 @ 9:14am
You have the wrong version of SKSE. You need to use the version for 1.5.97. The downpatcher basically resets skyrim to that version so you need the SKSE that matches.

This applies even if you are using the "Best of both worlds" patcher.
Quevik Dec 15, 2021 @ 9:18am
wait my mistake, you downloaded the 342 to 323 patcher...that means you need the older version of the AE SKSE. The one for 323....

If you are already updated to SSE version 1.6+, then just keep the current version of the game - and make sure you get the fix for the corrupt textures, here:
Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.342 Corrupted Texture Fix - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60095

This is why we do NOT recommend that people roll back to previous, now unsupported and obsolete versions. Those with existing builds should have taken steps to prepare, and if they did not it is their responsibility to correct any issues they may encounter; and those who have the new version are just going to be confused and will receive the wrong information should they encounter issues with their game.

Only the current version (1.6.342) is supported, and that is the only one people should be using - and that is the way it has always been for all previous updates. Those using older versions do so at their own risk and with full knowledge that Steam, Bethesda, the Unofficial Patch Team and most of the regulars here cannot and will not provide version specific support for the outdated versions.
