Very important question vital to my current RP game: would an Alfiq enjoy pets?
I mucked around with Mihail's Alfiq Spellcasters mod to plug in the keywords that allow them to be tamed using Taming the Beasts of Skyrim, so now I've got one following me around and absolutely wiping the floor with everything that even *thinks* about harming my PC (seriously, she one-shotted a draugr deathlord). My character is a Khajiit and while he is not all that familiar with many of the other forms of Khajiit (he grew up as a Telvanni slave on Vvardenfel) he recognizes a fellow Khajiit when he sees one. I can find quite a bit of lore that Alfiqs certainly are NOT housecats...but they seem to share a lot of the playfulness associated with them and can easily be misidentified by non-Khajiit. Now I have been trying to find any lore about just how similar they are...basically if they are for all intents and purposes house cats that can talk and wield magic and do long division or if they seriously dislike the petting and cat toys that a regular house cat would get.

Anyone have any ideas?

From what lore is on UESP, Afiqs are often aristocrats and have large estates with many servants, so I would think they would like a few.

Alfiq are just as intelligent as any other Kahjiit, and they do not like being treated different based on their appearance, they have intelligence, speaking capability and powerful magic, they are just small. The often wear clothes or other identifiers as to not be mistaken for a house cats.

The only time they would consider acting like a house cat is spy work.

This is where I am unsure. At least one source https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/7ay4me/the_many_phases_of_khajiit_the_alfiq/ has insinuated that Alfiq are generally a lot more playful than so-called normal Khajiit. While it is certainly true that they are every bit as intelligent as any other Khajiit they seem to have certain characteristics that are unique to them. Of course the trouble is there aren't an awful lot of official sources on this (at least that I can find) so a lot of this is speculative.

I suppose, would any other Khajiit enjoy getting petted? I suppose it is not out of the question.

To figure that out, you would have to read the Real Barenziah lol.

Some Khajiit keep house cats, ESO showed that.

In addition to searching UESP and the fandom wiki, OP might also find some of the alfiq-related articles on the Imperial Library interesting. Just pop "Alfiq" into the search box at the top of the page, should be about a page and a half of mentions, including the in-game (Skyrim) books Mixed Unit Tactics and Ahzirr Traajijazeri. I did not read every article, but they mention interviews with various bethesda employees regarding the lore.

Nice! Never knew about this source. I'll have to take a look.

Well, according to a book "Bounty and Shields" they can purr...

Sheogorath sometimes appears as a Afiq.

I googled Alfiq .. and suprisingly that's not the weirdest thing i found out about TES lore.
No the weirdes thas to be: what Vivec did with Molag Bal .. that i can't even describe here because i might risk getting a warning.

Right now I'm leaning toward "it depends." Just like humans certain Alfiq may like being petted and certain ones don't. Since my PC is a male Khajiit and my "tamed" Alfiq is female (at least according to Tame the Beasts of Skyrim) it may even be interpreted as some kind of romantic gesture, like stroking the hair of your partner.

I'll have to contemplate this a bit further. My PC doesn't particularly know an awful lot about Khajiit society after having been raised in a Telvanni slave quarters (and thus the Alfiq form would probably be completely unknown to him due to them being so rare) so it may not really occur to him that petting a Khajiit that only LOOKS like a house cat may be a faux pas.

Nothing about the time-traveling robot Pelinal Whitestrake?

Oh my..
Still the Vivec + Molag Bal imo is the weirdest.

Yeah...there is a LOT of weirdness with TES. This is certainly one of the top ten most fleshed out lore out there. It's up there with Star Wars and D&D (which, btw, has miniature giant space hamsters; that's what Boo was in Baldur's Gate).
