casting healing spell

I found someone near a cave that needed my help. I do have the healing spell and when I cast it the light goes around me. Can I only heal myself with the spell? If I give him one of my potions like I put extra stuff in my chest at home?

The "Healing" spell is only for yourself. "Healing Hands" is the version that heals someone else. Not sure what person you're talking about so I'm not sure if you can give them a potion.

It's the injured hunter near cave full of Spriggans not far from Falkreath. It's part of the side quest to heal him with target spell or potion and help him clear out the cave.

You get his lucky dagger. Completing this also progresses "help people of Falkreath" if you have it active aswell.

As has been mentioned, you need "Healing Hands" to heal another person. You should be able to select the potion when the list comes up. You only have to give him one, and the game lets you choose how many. A single minor health potion is all he needs.

He's referring to Valdr, injured outside the cave in the Moss Mother Cavern quest.
