How quickly can you get Dawnguard Followers?
Like at what level - and how long does the quest line to obtain them actually take?

The Dawnguard questline may be started at level one if you want.

You must start the quest: 'Prophet' on the Dawnguard side before you can recruit Dawnguard followers.

You could also look here: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyrim to find the answer to nearly any game related question you have.

Yeah, I read that section. But I wasn't sure 1) what level I have to be realistically to get to the stage where I can recruit them, and 2) how long it takes (in real time) from starting the Dawnguard quest line to getting the Followers on board.

Level 1, all can be done at level 1, at any difficulty, except quests which literally require an x level.

1. 2. That is entirely up to you. How long it takes me does not equal how long it takes you.

I was thinking in terms of ballpark figures! ;)

Somewhere between 10 minutes and 10 hours. That is all the way from home base to far right field. ;)

Seriously, go to Fort Dawnguard at level one. Get the first quest to find Serana, travel there. (One click if you have already found found the location, or half an hour if you have to walk.) Take 15 minutes to run through the dungeon. Get the quest to take Serana home.

(Then one click to take her there if you have already discovered the location. Forty-five minutes if you have to walk.) Hasten straight back to Isran and he will give you the next quest to find Sorine Jurard and Gunmar. (Very quick to complete if you have discovered nearby locations, possibly tedious trekking if you have not.)

Then return to Isran and get the next quest with Serana. You may then recruit Dawnguard personnel.

If you have taken the time to pre-discover locations near the objectives, it can be done very fast. Otherwise it could be very slow.
