"stuck" textures mod
Alright, so i installed nordic snow and wound up with this issue:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2762162608

It's clearly a texture problem. The issue is also clearly related to nordic snow as it first happened when i enabled that mod. That particular mountain was fine immediately before i activated nordic snow.

But even after removing the mod, that mountain continues to have the problem in all new games. Just to double check, i re-added nordic snow, used the console command to get the item ID of that rock, and confirmed the textures for the base object to be snowrocks01.dds. That texture is added by nordic snow, and successfully removed when vortex removes nordic snow.

But the issue remains. I KNOW that object uses that texture, i KNOW that texture is gone as i found it in the file folder and watched it vanish when uninstalled.

So, um...what do i do here?

EDIT: It was NOT nordic snow...just coincidence.

did you turn off the default snow shader in the settings window when you first launched your game?

if not go to your SkyrimPrefs.ini located here
C:\Users\Owner\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition
bEnableImprovedSnow=0

and if you didn't use a either "Better Dynamic Snow" or Simplicity of Snow then install
Simplicity of Snow and let it overwrite SMIM

What other mods are you using? Which Landscape mod? Are you using Majestic Mountains?

Are you using Better Dynamic Snow or Simplicity of Snow?

Did you turn off the games snow shader?

did you set bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1 in your SkyrimPrefs.ini?

I have almost 400 mods, too many to reasonably list atm, though i will do so if i can't figure this out.

No landscape mods unless SMIM counts.

Real mountains but not majestic mountains. (Real mountains does not touch that objects mesh or texture, i checked)

Only mod with "snow" in the name is Rass rain ash and snow shaders:

bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals is set to 1. I generally don't mess with ini settings. Should it be set to 1?

Missed the "snow shader" question the first time. Not sure where that is or how i would turn it off or on tbh.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

i think you've got me about where i need to be vlad.

After your original response i changed two things in the .ini settings while i waited to hear back. (Cause, you know, why not)

bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals to 0
and
bEnableImprovedSnow to 0

(Both were at 1)

One of the two fixed it. I think. Truthfully i'm not 100% sure cause i can't figure out where the issue was now...which i assume means it's gone...lol.

Just to be clear, what are your recommended settings for those two...settings? Just to make sure i don't misunderstand.

bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals

try setting that to 1

The snow shader is a big one because the game's shader is pretty much broken

Just to be clear, I'm doing this all on a new game. Like, change the .ini, start a new game, test it...repeat if needed.

I would NEVER do that on an existing game.

get in the habit of *always* backing up before you make .ini changes (new game or not)

If the ini setting doesn't fix this, it might be a LOD that hasn't unloaded, but the symptoms are
a bit too different to convince me.

Always, for config files in any game, program...ANYTHING with actual code...always.

And Vlad...THANK YOU SO MUCH!

You did it for me. Changing bEnableImprovedSnow from 1 to 0 fixed it.

Let me be perfectly clear here, i would NEVER have figured this out without you. So THANK YOU.

Though i'm still confused on why it happened after nordic snow and not before but, whatever. it's fixed.

THANK YOU!
