Tempering Goldbrand requires Daedric smithing

Daedric smithing should only give you the capability to have double smithing power for gear which have the perk bound to it.

Yes, but since OP still can't temper Goldbrand, I presume Daedric smithing is required. A bug, an error in the wiki page[en.uesp.net] or something else?

That would be weird as nothing really functions like that, but then again, it's Skyrim so everything is possible.

To the OP, try this. First make a hard save and then open up the console and type in the following:
player.addperk 000CB413

This unlocks the daedric smithing perk for you, try and see if you can temper the weapon yes or no. If yes, we found the culprit, if no, no idea what it could be. Anyway, after you did this, reload your save to undo the console commands.

Before you try that make sure you run the VANILLA perk trees, because with perk overhauls (ordinator, etc)it might be different.
I improved Goldbrand to legendary, but at that point I had all the smithing perks.... at a guess you need Daedric smithing, but given it was created by Dragons it could be Dragon smithing that need unlocking....

Oh btw another thing that can be influential if you use mods .... Do you have a smiting overhaul (complete crafting overhaul redone, ars metallica, etc)?

Already mentioned that, but the description says Arcane Blacksmith perk. It's a little confusing, as to the right it says Tempering: Daedric Smithing perk, although it's listed under Statistics.

you'll need probably both and if the arcane perk is needed that could be the problem have heard before that sometimes the Arcane blacksmith perk doesn't fire so 1 additional question can you improve enchanted items?

You need the arcane smithing because it's enchanted, and Daedric smithing because it's a daerdric weapon...

That's the confusion on the UESP page.

Ya, I can't do the console thing bc I'm playing on ps5, and also, i dont want to install mods

Then just level up normally and get the two perks.
