Prison Cart Crashing During Intro?
Literally every time I try to start the game, the cart and horse you're supposed to ride to Helgen winds up turning too early, goes off road, and then gets stuck trying to walk straight ahead into a wall of rocks. This is basically making the vanilla game unplayable.

Has anyone else experienced this bug? Does anyone know of a fix?

fps going to high or the cart mesh is acting up.
Answer for first is to make sure you have capped fps to 60, answer to second is to use
the fixed mesh, I can probably find it somewhere....

IF Making sure your FPS is capped at 60 does not fix it then try:

(take your pick)

Prisoner Cart Opening Fix SE and AE
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60968

or this
Prisoner cart fix SMIM
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8004

WiZkiD Carriages also contains the fix

Is FPS cap an option in the menu, or do I have to edit the .ini files?

Or try lowering graphic settings. Also game is not optimized for all computer/monitor setups.

Go to the FPS (Capping) section of this guide:

The surest way to do it is to use your gpu control panel. For Nvidia that would be Manage3D settings>Program Settings>The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition> (scroll down to) Max Frame rate.

or, if your monitor is 60hz, just turn on vsync.

IDK how AMD does it; I presume the AMD control panel is similar.

Ninja'd! Use Vlad's guide.

^This is the method I use. But not everyone has Nvidia. AMD has this type feature as well.

Ghheeeeezzzz... Wound up having to set the frame rate allllll the way down to 30 to get the sequence to finish. And even then, it was janky as absolute Hell (cart rag-dolled multiple times, and one of the horses in the convoy wound up jumping completely over one of the carts half way down).

What in the heck causes that?

Are there any other sequences with those kinds of issues I need to be aware of? Should I just leave it at 30? lol

60 should have fixed it.
But to answer your question, the cart scene is the most temperamental scripted scene, some even use it to gauge how stable their game is.
The civil war questline is the only thing that gets close to the level of scripts.

Many times people make a save after the Helgen intro and then start modding their game. That's how bad it is. On the other hand many of us have no issues with it. You'll have to play and see how it goes if you're not using mods.

Oh, I'm using quite a few. The build *was* stable about a year ago.

It would seem that Anniversary Edition has changed some things, however. I guess we'll see. lol

If you have issues with the helgen cart ride intro while modding, I'd recommend using the mod "live another life", even if you continue using the "helgen cart ride" intro option.

Live another life starts you in a prison cell where you pick your intro (Default, camping in the woods, home owner...etc.) Anyway, i chill in the prison cell a few minutes and let all my mods finish loading (All the crap you get in the upper left corner). Once everything has loaded (which takes about 1 hour in game or three minutes RL) i then talk to the statue, pick vanilla start, sleep in the bed, and the game picks up like normally.

I find it greatly increases the odds of a stable intro,
