Load order file
Where does SKyrime SE store it's load order and active plugin files? It used to be Local/Skyrim but when creating the same folder for SE (Local/Skyrim Special Edition) and adding the plugins.txt and loadorder.txt there the game just ignores it.

It is in the same place as it has always been, only your memory has changed.

Old version
Users\dpmrs\AppData\Local\Skyrim

New SE
Users\dpmrs\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition

And of course your computers name not mine.

Unfortunately as I said in the OP Skyrim SE seems to ignore that location when adding the loadorder and plugins file to that location(C:\Users\steamuser\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition).

Did you run SE once before trying to mod it?

Skyrim has to generate the ini files before you do anything.
FluffyPotato Apr 11, 2021 @ 10:55pm
Yea, of course, it didn't even generate the "Skyrim Special Edition" directory under the Local directory. Nothing generated even after enabling one of my mods under the in-game mod manager (Which is unfortunately not usable to enable and reorder over 300 mods) I have done it before in old Skyrim but it seems to me that they have changed the directory of the files.

Sounds like the folders in question are not exempt from your security settings.

I am assuming you are using Windows 10 (or 8). I wish I could give you directions to maybe resolve this issue....but it is a pain in the proverbial ass.

I have no idea how I did it myself and I just looked at my exclusions and I don't see them there. But mine works...so I offer up thanks to the Computer Gods every day.

Edit: I do run skse64loader.exe as administrator, maybe that does it. If you don't use script extender, I would guess you would give skyrimSElauncher.exe, SkyrimSE.exe or both, administrator priviliages (Right click and select run as adinistrator). This also assumes you are administrator of the computer you use.

Don't run Windows or don't install to C:.

If you are being serious and not just being cheeky, go ahead and elaborate (that means explain). Don't get me wrong. I love smart ass comments. But they don't really provide assistance to the people asking for help. The OP is likely frustrated and so is likely not to appreciate the humour.

Now I am not saying the solution I provided will in any way help. But it's an option for them to try.

Yeah you are right... I should eat before I post.

Microsoft hate screed deleted (all 12 pages)... you are welcome... but I still hate Windows 10 with a passion.

DO NOT INSTALL SKYRIM IN THE PROGRAM FILES DIRECTORIES.

Think I hate Microsoft, check out the passion here at about 1:25...

Clearly this guy has had to deal with One Drive and the UAC.

If you don't want to get to the point where you are waving a knife around on Youtube, keep Skyrim away from Microsoft OneDrive, UAC and virus protections such as Defender.

If you can't, lock up the knives. ;)

Ok, I finally found it, apparently plugins.txt and loadorder.txt is stored in "C:\Users\steamuser\Local Settings\Application Data\Skyrim Special Edition"
Skyrim is the only thing in that folder too, nothing else in Local Settings either, didn't even think Windows 10 used that folder anymore, I think that's from the XP era. When searching for the files I went to appdata which is why search didn't have any luck earlier.
DPMR Apr 12, 2021 @ 10:38pm
What are you on about?

There is NO such folder in Win 10, it is in AppData folder.
Ihateeverybody Apr 13, 2021 @ 8:22am
Shared Computer? Different Region?

There could be alot of reasons why it is in a different location. It is unusual though.

My concern is mostly that the application (Skyrim) doesn't know to look there.
FluffyPotato Apr 13, 2021 @ 9:04am
No idea why Skyrim SE is using that folder. Old Skyrim is using "C:\Users\steamuser\AppData\Local\Skyrim" like it should. Skyrim SE is literally the only thing with data under Local Settings too. I'm just gonna chalk this up to a Bethesda game being a Bethesda game and not properly recognizing that I have Windows 10 and not XP.
