Skyrim SE wont start even after reinstalling
Hi! ive been having some trouble with my Skyrim se not being able to launch. The launcher pops up , i click play and the screen appears black for a 2 seconds and closes. I was running mods and everything went well but i found mods that peaked my interest https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/43312?tab=description and https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2357?tab=description) so i decided to exit skyrim SE to download and install the mods. Also the same time my Titanfall 2 download was finished so i decided to open that first so it could install the necessary files it needed before going back to opening skyrim se. And that's where the problem began. I tried opening skyrim se but it just opens up for a split second and closes. So i decided to uninstall the mods that i recently installed but to no avail.

Things i tried:

*Uninstalled all mods

*reinstall skyrim se from steam (also deleted files from my documents and steam common and vortex mods)

*reinstalled microsoft redistributable visual c++ 2015-2019

*reinstalled directx 12

*validate game files

*clear steam download cache

I dont know if it was the titanfall installation or the mods i used that screwed up skyrimse , but all my other games are fine (ex. Fallout 4 with Script extender)

thank in advance!

The follower mod( your first one listed) requires 3 mods to work and one of those mods (JC Containers) requires SKSE). So did you install all 6 mods? With SKSE are you launching the game with the it's new launcher?
Just remember Skyrim is not a plug and play when it comes to mods, you always need to check if additional mods are required or or not compatible with other mods.
Since you deleted everything now is the time to start vanilla again, grab SEEdit and clean your master files so you have a stable platform to mod on.
The stickies on the top of the forums have fantastic guides to follow, so you don't run into any more issues. It's a little bit of work but the rewards of still having a stable game with hundreds of mods as your level passes 50 is well worth the effort to start off right. GL

Did it run well for you completely vanilla? Besides the fact that you have to launch it to the main menu before you start modding it everyone should imo also play it for a bit so they have some idea of what mods they might want or what they are even looking at in for example the nexus mods selections.

So the first thing is, did the game run fine for you without mods?

Second thing is, when you start over after an unsuccessful modding attempt you need to do more than remove mods, an uninstall/reinstall, delete my docs.

You need to perform a proper Clean Vanilla Reinstall. GamerPoets has a 2 minute video that should be followed to the letter

Also, check your AV is not blocking it. If not sure how check out that section in this guide:

i've been modding Fallout 4 and skyrim / skyrim se for years and had hundreds of mods prior to installing both of those mods but this is the first time ive encountered this problem. and yes i did a clean install, deleted everything skyrim related , uninstalled it from steam it should be like the first time ive downloaded it but the problem still persists, all the other games work well so i dont think it was the redistributeables that are causing the problems.

I would delete all the SKSE files. Reinstall SKSE making sure you have the SE version. Set graphic settings with the Bethesda launcher then launch Skyrim with the SKSE launcher.

Really sounds like SKSE got installed wrong, wrong version or became corrupt. I have had this issue a few time myself.
just checking
Vortex is not giving any warnings correct?

uninstalling from steam is not enough, for example did you go into appdata?

Just make sure you follow Vlad's link for Mr. Clean Install. If you truly deleted everything it has to be a windows permission thing.
If you have Steam and it's games installed in Program Files(x86) just make sure you exempt them through your fire wall and set them to rum as admin. The only other thing I can think of is you have Steam and Skyrim on different drives?
To be honest it really sounds like you have remanent files of mods leftover causing you all this grief.

You checked Anti-Virus/Windows Defender?

One minute it ran perfectly fine Vanilla but not the next?

He's not having the problems with other games or even other beth games so I'm doubting it's anything to do with UAC. (But maybe).

Yup checked windows defender and it says it allows skyrim se through.
the only thing i could think of is my installation of titanfall 2 somehow messed up the redistributables , but i already uninstalled and reinstalled them and they're up to date

and yes , it was so sudden. it was running smoothly with alot of mods but somehow when i installed those 2 mods and ran titanfall 2 (to finish settting up) i wasnt able to go back in skyrim se

I can only see your video on my phone since I'm at work but I think you still have extra files or they are unpacked.
Since you deleted so much.
1- with the launcher go to options and set your video level to low(just trouble shooting).
2 - right click on the launcher and set to run as administrator.
If the game still fails to launch
1- go to steam/steamapps/skyrim se and delete the whole folder(Skyrim SE).
2- go to documents/mygames/skyrim se and delete that whole folder(Skyrim SE) since you only have one save in it.
Go back to Steam/Library/Verify Integrity of Game and let it reinstall. You should be good after that.

tried that and it still wont start :(

I'm out of ideas. I would be deleting Vortex and all my downloaded mods too, maybe reformatting my hard drive - lol. I forget it's location users/apps/something?

Really Strange what is going on.

Your not on a family share are you? Only one person can have the game running.

You can try posting the link to this thread in the Old Farts Coffee House thread, they are skilled folks there. Maybe Valad has some more suggestions, he is one of those old farts 😁.
