0% pickpocket chance item for fishing job
Got a fishing job from thieves guild, trying to go for 'One with the Shadows' achievement.

Quest needs me to pickpocket Idolaf Battle-Born's Flawless Diamond. Weight 0.1, value 1000.

My current pickpocket skill is 21. without any tricks pickpocket chance is 0%. After drinking potion that improves chance for 20% it's still 0. I understand that 20% of 0 is still 0, but this logick seems like BS. I enchanted 4 items to increase my pickpocket chance by 40% each - and that diamond is still 0%. I know i can just go and sign out of this mission, but I wander if there is still a way to steal such items.

try pickpocketing other NPCs to get your pickpocket skill up, and see if investing more perk points into light fingers perk.

Yeah you need to train a bit more, while jewels are easy to pickpocket, at that low 40% increases are minuscule.

either train on other targets or go back to the guild, tell them you want to give up and pick another type of mission, i always do bedlam and heist jobs, they are the easiest ones to do.

Get some jewelry of various values, stealth through a bandit camp or three and pickpocket your jewelry onto each bandit before killing them. That should level your pickpocket fairly fast. I don't know the exact numbers but you should get a chance to take that diamond at around level 30 pickpocket.

Note if a bandit catches you trying to give him jewelry you can hit him with a calm spell and it should reset him allowing you to pick his pocket again, this also works for stealth attacks iirc.

Just run the old pickpocket training method (place and pick) on a carriage driver with a gem of about 300-500 gold value. The higher the value, the harder the pick.

you just need to train pickpocket, if you think about it if someone is just walking around with a diamond in their pockets they're probably watching it/being careful, you can't just walk up and yoink it with barely any experience

I always do fishing and burglary jobs. Unless my pickpocketing is too low, then i do Numbers and Burglary.

The thing i love about heist jobs is that they count towards the bedlam job stolen value if you have both quests targeting the same city.

Your way earns more money, but since i always play an alchemist and earning money is way to easy as an potion brewer, i never really need these missions for money, as such i prefer to get those heist and bedlam jobs, finish the auto generated quests faster.

The auto generated quests are fun to do once or twice but the handmade quests are infinitely better. I get why they showed off this auto generated quest trick so much in the game since it was pretty new, but i certainly hope that in the next game they either go back to handcrafted quests or that they improved their abilities with these kinds of quests and make them more complex and more story intensive, they get boring fast because they are way to simple and have 0 story associated with them. I just want to get them over with as soon as i can. As such i always quick save the moment i accept a quest, than reload if its not in a city that i want. Anything to make these simple quests be over faster (i play with a mod that disables fast travel, so getting around for all these quests takes longer. going all over the map for every seperate quest is simply not viable for me)
