What is the best house mod?
I usually just bunk in the Legacy Museum.

Yeah I know... Creation Club.

Yea i use that a lot. It is my "Guard armor display" house. And it is smack in the middle of the entire map so it is perfect for storage.

Exactly!
Right in the middle of the map, right next to Whiterun, just enough storage and crafting opportunities without being over the top or immersion breaking. And a nice view over the beautiful grasslands of Skyrim.

Another thing I like about Tundra Homestead is that you actually need to purchase it.
Most other house mods just give the dragonborn some huge epic castle right at the start of the game.

Yea, that is a nice touch, same with the Shadowfoot house. You need to actually have the money for it and not just go to it and it is yours.

Tried out a couple of homes but I stuck with the simple but yet effective Breezehome overhaul.

Got all my storage and crafting needs. Who doesn't want to live in Whiterun?

House mods all have different use cases. I needed one that can house all of the followers I've accumulated over time so for me, Skyfall Estate near Whiterun is best for it. It has something like 30 beds so its like a dorm for mercenaries.

That one looks really good, but i dont trust her homes at all after Myrwatch and Hendraheim. The ones i have from her now (CC only) are the last ones i will ever get. But damn that unique display room looked sexy AF.

Also an added bonus with Skyfall estate is that you don't like followers for some reason you can discard that basement level entirely. I find the display room from eli's breezehome a bit cramped for my liking

For myself I use mainly this if I do a non LOTD play: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6075

Yeah I like how there are two zones for that home with an allotment of beds in each. The ones I frequently bring with me I put on that first zone, and then others I don't really care for they get assigned to the basement heh.

I've tried quite a few house mods, but in the end the only one that has stood the test of time is Lake Haven; it is spacious without being huge, and has all the mod cons I could ever wish, including a great gallery for unique items; in addition, it is highly customisable (some of the features can be disabled if desired). It is also the only house I tried that has room for six adopted children; for me this is a must, as I always adopt the four homeless kids, plus Runa and Sissel. The only minus is that the stairs are a bit narrow, and this can result in some traffic jam, especially later on, when the house hosts six children, a few pets and a spouse. However I have discovered jumping is an effective way to get past them :steamhappy:

Qaxe's Questorium had a few decent houses in it. Unfortunately fro what I've read the author took the SE version down due until Bethesda stopped updating the game.

LC Build Your Noble House goes to the other extreme than most, requiring one to pump an absolutely obscene amount of materials and money into building a castle town and hiring all of its work force.

I made Quintower Manor (via in-game browser) primarily to display all of the "good" Immersive Armors some years ago (originally for LE), and each tower could be set up for the entire collection of a given material - i.e. ebony armor set with all ebony weapons (vanilla) and an extra 2 shield mounts for the reward/named or enchanted versions (mannequin holding one, 2 on the wall).

It has display for the masks, claws, and scrolls, as well as all the Divine shrines. DLC friendly, which means Dragonborn masks and both claw halves will sit together to look like the whole thing.

I didn't put in separate displays for the Daedric artifacts. Couldn't quite work it into the design the way I wanted.

Since I don't use IA anymore, I use the mannequins to display each vanilla armor type (except iron) and the chest under the mannequins hold excess loot.

The house is Hearthfires-based, and has 2 levels visible from outside but 3 levels inside, all in one open plan (no loading screens like the basement). It has Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing, and Staff Enchanting, book cases (one with all Skill books, one with all Spell tomes), and an alchemy chest that has all ingredients, a recipe book, and there's a chest with enchanted items and soul gems (filled and empty) to get started. Or you can sell them for easy money.

My reasoning behind the home is that the Player character, despite being mistaken for a 30-something n00b peasant with no skillz in anything, is actually a prosperous and knowledgeable adventurer who was out on an adventure when he was abducted by the Imperials just because Ulfric was nearby. The booster gear in the house is just to get you up to where you should be under that scenario, instead of being an actual 30-something n00b peasant with no skillz.

I always hated that "buy a house" nickel and dime you to death crap. It's my house. I live here, why don't I have a house? Or a room at the inn which I've rented for the last several days/weeks/months, or someone to shack up with? Uthgerd has her own place, and who is she? Her name isn't dropped around town any more than mine, so why do I have to be the "you're not from here" guy all the time? I live here, this is my house, here's all my stuff in my house. I could see if it was like Fallout 3, tracing your birth to your teenage years before setting out on the road to grownup land, but it's not like that. You wake up in a wagon dressed in rags with criminals and no explanation as to why.

I like the sound of that. A place feels more like home if you need to put in some time and money. Once you reach late game you usually will have more than enough money to invest in some large projects.
