You can activate the glitch by using an AOE spell like Firestorm near the pedestal before claiming Dawnbreaker.
It causes the second copy of Dawnbreaker to go flying somewhere in the room, while the original Dawnbreaker is still on its pedestal.
you then first pick up the copy that got blasted away. and then pick up the one on the pedestal. and you should be teleported away according to the wiki. i haven't played this ♥♥♥♥ in ages so i don't remember it exactly XD
Very odd. I didn't follow any of the glitch instructions or even knew that a glitch existed. I just looted the sword after I killed the shade.
However, I did kill the shade is a very untraditional manner. Since I was only level 8 when I killed Malkoran, I threw a firebolt while standing at the top of the stairs before his lair to attract him and his shades. Then I ran out into the main chamber and waited for him and his minions to follow me. He chased me all over the ruins, until we finally ended up shooting magic at each other for who knows how long. He would throw icebolts (or whatever they were) at me, I'd dodge, and then use shock on him until he ran out of magicka, then attack him until he got his magicka back. Swallow about a dozen potions to get my health and magicka back, and then rinse and repeat. Dodge, shock, melee attack with a one-handed scimitar.
Finally killed him and his shade and went down to loot the sword. Then when the quest completed I ended up with two.
Weird. Seems like a bug, since normally when you encounter Malkoran he shuts the door behind you and you can't get out until you kill him and his shade.
*Possibly the reason for the bug is that Malkoran actually chased me into another room (the first room of the ruins), so he followed me outside of his room. But he never went back into his lair, he would just camp himself by the door and wait, and rush if you approach his aggro range. So I killed him in another loaded "instance" of the ruins. Possibly the game interpreted this weirdly.
I think we broke the cycle. Regardless, I ended up using Bows more than swords. I was also finding old glitches as well like the combat audio loop after doing certain civil war quests.
Oh well, I now have two Dawnbreakers I'll probably never use. :P
I’m not a mage so I don’t have any AOE spells, would Unrelenting force shout work?
I "think" that was patched out with the Unofficial Patch, but not 100% positive. Would have to check the billions of changes made from the changelog.
