For my build/character - should I join Imperials or Stormcloaks?
Without any spoilers, should I join the Imperials or Stormcloaks if my character is going to be a paladin / holy knight type character focused on: Two Handed, Shields + Block(half of block perks work with 2 handed), Restoration, Heavy Armor, maybe some crafting.

It would be great if I can get some answers based on these two factors:

1. Rewards from the factions that might benefit my playstyle, be it armor, bonuses, weapons, or not rewards but even access to items / services. If there is no way else to get such things in the game aside from one of the storylines I would like to know, but don't be too specific about what it is to not spoil it completely (e.g. say unique shield / item that might help your character from stormcloaks instead of the exact effects and name of the item).

2. Storyline feel and theme for roleplaying purposes. Which storyline or feel of the factions feel better for a paladin / holy knight character like mine? Again no spoilers, just general ideas please :P

Thank you guys!

You can go the whole game without formerly joining a side if you don't want to finish up the civilwar bit. It's an end game questline really. Joining a side really only allows you to use that sides camps without them agroing on you really. Beyond that no real benefit. The Dovahkiin is pretty much a neutral party.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter which side you pick besides lore consequences.

I always side with Elisif, I can't stand to see Ulfric.

That's why Skyrim is more shallow gameplay wise in comparison to say Morrowind and even Oblivion. This is what happens when streamlining becomes popular.

I don't care, it's not as if there's hundreds of hours of other things to do.

Games like Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2, The Witcher 3, Dues Ex do choice and consequence and reputation in-game systems much better.

Also, you cared enough to reply ;P

What about Shadowrun: Hong Kong? Also I don't care about story shortcommings. I don't play for a fantastic story...or lack therof. I play because skyrim is basically a tub of lego for me. I can go with the set the instructions say to go for, or I can say ♥♥♥♥ it and make my own fun with all the pieces.

I mean I don't care about your proposed shortcommings.

Ok so for lore side then, which side should I pick that fits better for a paladin type character? I'm thinking imperial legion seems a better fit would I be right? I know some of you may think why don't you just ask about them or read a bit online but I dont want spoilers and the information in the beginning may be different to how the faction feels as a whole and their quests compared to how they seem at the start.

So just where would you put a holy warrior / paladin based on what you know about the two questlines?

Well, that depends. Are you partial to short term or long term "good". Because for the greater good, you wanna go for the empire. For short term good, go with the stormcloaks.

Explaining why helping the empire is for long term good would be story spoilers.

I concur in regards to siding with the Empire. Stormcloaks are very short sighted and don't understand what would actually happen to Skyrim if they became independent of the Empire.

Oh, it goes far deeper than that.

Said action would also weaken the Empire enough for the Elves to pretty much annex both.

The Stormcloaks are fools, Empire all the way.

It's even more than just a simple power play.

Are you talking about genocide?
