Early storage options?
Hi! I need to store all the ingredients/dragon scales/swag/jewlery and so on but I am only lv 5 and the 5k for a house in Whiterun is kinda out of my grasp at the moment... Ideas to stash my loot securely? Even just a trasure chest would do. if my memory deserves right putting everything in barrels/lockers could cause to lose them eventually. Correct? Thanks in advance :)

Go and make alchemy potions and poisons, sell them to all the general goods vendors and alchemy shops, boom you got a house. easy peasy.

You will lose the items eventually if you dont store them in a house yes, you would have to keep revisiting the "cell" where you keep the things every 2-3 days or so ingame time, its annoying.

As long as the container you store the items in does not have this flag "Respawn:Yes" then you will not lose them.

Open console and click on it and see if it has that flag.

If the flag is "Respawn:No" then everything in there will never be lost.

The chest near the bedroom of the house in Whiterun does not have "Respawn:Yes" so you can store items for ever in there if you want.

EDIT: Eh... damn it i read it wrong....

You can get your first house in about an hour if you grind for it. Clear the caves and fort around Whiterun and loot everything expensive including the enemies' armor (might take a few trips... actually I can guarantee it will... I like to collect everything and then leave it in a chest closest to the exit... it won't despawn before you make the runs you need to sell it all).

Course I've just been playing smarter (maybe because I'm 5 years older than I was haha) and not picking up every piece of junk I find in dungeons. I have a set of armor, a bow and an axe, and enough potions to get me through difficult fights. I've also started using cooking recipes but the vanilla ones are borderline useless. I miss the food mods.

In all seriousness, you really don't need storage at level 5.

Time to give Lydia some mule tasks then....

Thanks guys

Worst english incomming, but in about ~48-50 hours the merchants restock their gold.^^

Its simple realy. first off. your lv dosent realy mather. i got 10 lvs just from training archery and then pickpocket the guy to get my money back. when you got a few lvs. just get a few points into speach. and then. dont pickup everything you see. only pick up armor you want to use. or that have enchants you want. same for weapons. dont pickup food or books, just open them to get the skill. pick all the ingredients you can find. and all misc items with a valute over 100. when you got about 250wg. then go to a town. and disenchant. and then sell the other that got left over. then go to a trader and sell all the misc you can. and then to an alchemist and train, pickpocket. untill you cant anymore. just dont forget to quicksave and load for sucsess :) and then eat one of eatch ingredient you have to get the base properties and make potions. the more expensive the potion. the more skill you get. and the more lvs you get. just manage your skill buy and lvs so you get the most out of it. and when you have done all this. you will have gained 15lv+ and atleast 3-5kgold. just from 1 town. if you got more stuff. go to the next town over or take a taxi in whiterun to a mayor town. you can do all this in about 3-6 hours and then have manny lvs, money, and then just do the main quest and buy the whiterun house. and get all uppgrades and then you can hoard to all your hearths content :)

According to UESP....
All containers in the Bannered Mare, with the exception of some barrels and food sacks, are non-respawning

It wouldn't be if you sold some of that junk you're lugging around. Like really, Dragon Scales? You'll have plenty of opportunity of getting some when you actually need it, you don't have to hoard it. And why even bother hanging on to swag and jewellery? The whole purpose of that stuff is to make some gold from it. Ingredients I can sort of see, but you should be making actual potions from them and not simply stockpiling them. Then you sell the ones you don't actually use.

If you befriend Faendal in Riverwood there's a cupboard by the table to the left as you enter his house which I've always found to be safe, as well as the two pieces of furniture in the far right corner - again as you enter. The chest to the right as you enter does respawn so don't use it.

Edit: I haven't left anything in the chest under the table to the left as you enter long enough to know for sure whether or not that one respawns.

There are also a few 'free' places to store items like the abandoned house or Anise's Cabin. The key, as mentioned by Mr.Hmm is whether the containers are set to 'respawn'. UESP has a pretty good 'safe places for storage' listing. The elderscrolls wikia also lists faction (
free after doing some quests) as well as some free spots under the 'Shacks heading. Just do a search for houses. Google is your friend. :)
I just sell the stuff until I can afford Breezehome, it means I loose a few dragonscales and some jewellery, but nothing major in the long run.

Just to clarify. Looking up the locations on the wikia etc is important because not all containers are safe. In the 'Alchemists Shack', for example, only an end table beside the bed is safe.

If you use the Friends in Skyrim mod, there are 2 chests and a barrel behind the smithy in Whiterun that are usable. I like it because it isnt overkill for a small need. Besides, the mod adds some useful npcs as well.
not 100 sure but i think the house your invited in in Riverwood lets u store stuff safely.
