This isn't bad implementation, it's 1) realism, in that someone you like might not necessarily be into you (friendzone) while still appreciating the person you are 2) attention to detail, as in they went the distance of adding several dialogue options about it that expand her character so much more.

i am sorry but i disagree. "fear of temples" is not really good excuse after everything we have been through. we risked our lives so many times, she saw me kill so many innocent when dragons attacked, she saw me massacre so many dawnguards, and i standed by her side when she had no choice but to kill her father. And now i am great but she fear a building? I am having really hard time to accept that. More so that she is the only one who know what i am and she (probably i think) still like me. Talking about realism try telling lydia you are vampire. She would attack you, or run from you. (she wouldnt since its a game, but you know). And even after you become a "bloodstarved vampire, feared by all" she is still by your side. So yeahh really hard time swalloving that excuse.
