If that's not theh case, then perhaps you don't have Steam UI Overlay or whatever it's called running. Those are the only two things that come to mind atm
Sometimes the FN Key is higher up than the F1-12 Keys.
And trying the SkyrimTools SE Save Game Cleaner
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031/?
But no luck. I don't know how it started happening, but my save games are around 5-6MB in size.
What I do notice, is that it'll quick save if I press F5 and then esc right away (when the menu loads)
I HIGHLY recommend that you turn off autosaves and do not use quicksaves. Manual saves are slower but are far more stable. Quick/auto saves tend to get scripts stuck and can break other things. (Think a clogged toilet)

If you have Antialiasing set to OFF or FXAA, it will cause the bug. Set it to TAA (performance hit) but it's the only way I discovered how to restore F5 quick save functionality.
Quicksaves in SE don't work like they did in OG Skyrim. They create full, standalone save files
THANKS! this fixed the quick save bug for me. why would enabling taa solve this issue though? very strange
i didnt switched to TAA, but changed "bDoDepthOfField" to 1 in Documents/My games/Skyrim Special Edition/SkyrimPrefs.ini
now it works stable with F5
This thread is almost *7* years old...
And your "fix" didn't work for you either, as neither of these would have an effect on your F5 key.
Opening the .ini probably reset the option/keybind you had changed it to, so it works again.....
