The mods may be sparse at the moment, but once they get going, that 64 bit support is going to make a world of difference. It's also bringing the game back into the forefront, which means more players, and that in turn will hopefully bring more content creators.
So if you're currently 75 hours into a playthrough running 125 mods I'd stick to old Skyrim for now.
I did, but it was just the annoying run of the mill freeze crash where you need to restart your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC
If your attached to your Skyrim mods, chances are that a number of mods that you consider essential to your game play aren't available yet for this version, and may not be available for some time.
In the future, the 64 bit engine of this version will probably offer some decisive advantages, but it's going to be weeks, months, or forever before the Special Edition modding scene can compete with the original, and since some of the mod authors are in the wind, some mods are never going to be updated.
At the end of the day, this edition of the game is primarily for the benefit of console players (who get a more functional and now moddable experience), and PC players who don't mod the game. If the modding community can, in time, exploit this version to create a better experience down the road, that's just icing on the cake.
The only upside is that I can alt tab now, but if I alt tab during a loading screen, I have to go ctrl+alt+delete and restart my computer completely because it won't bring up my task manager.
Not sure what this means... Do you think the new Skyrim is a streaming game? Mods aren't streamed; you download them from 1st party (Bethesda) or 3rd party (Nexus, Alliance, Dark Creations).
That's because the new Creation Kit hasn't gone public yet (comes out next week) and it is a new game. Give it some proper time and the community will eventually transition over.
The official teams are already working on SKSE64, FNIS, and hopefully SKYUI isn't far behind.
Ya, but this is true for every mod hosting site; including the Nexus (in fact the Nexus may be more strict).
The Ultimate Skyrim experience!
(the greater memory access may actually allow for far more mods being able to be run and run nicely, though I can't confirm this).
