Why should I switch to SE?
I mean, it still has all of the most bothering bugs of the original, plus if your internet isn't really fast it is a mess to use mods with it. Besides, it has way less mods available for it, and I didn't really check, but I suppose there is some sort of standard that mods have to comply with in order to be posted in the oficial Bethesda service - namely, they shouldn't contain unauthorized intelectual property (such as the Thomas the Tank Engine mod or the WoW swords), or items not fit for all ages, if you get my meaning.

The game looks a lot better, from a lighting standpoint, and you'd be surprised what a big difference this actually makes (interiors are amazing!). Also, the engine is now running on 64 bit, and that is a big change for the better.

The mods may be sparse at the moment, but once they get going, that 64 bit support is going to make a world of difference. It's also bringing the game back into the forefront, which means more players, and that in turn will hopefully bring more content creators.

If you have more than than or 3.7 gbs of ram (32 bit ram limit) (the games 64 bit) and have a DX11 gpu and want a graphical improved experience on vanilla along with water not looking hideous anymore and some new lightning effects and rain occlusion (rain no longer falls through roofs when its raining when your outside) than go ahead, its free if you have all the DLC for regular Skyrim.

if you really like to mod Skyrim there is currently not really a reason to play the SE. There isn't so much a standard the mods need to adhere to (except on the bethasda website/consoles); there are currently fewer mods because only a small amount of people had early access to the creation kit for the SE. Also SKSE needs to be converted to be used for SE and until that is done many mods will either be not converted or have some of their functionality stripped.

So if you're currently 75 hours into a playthrough running 125 mods I'd stick to old Skyrim for now.

I did, but it was just the annoying run of the mill freeze crash where you need to restart your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC

You've kind of answered your own question haven't you?

If your attached to your Skyrim mods, chances are that a number of mods that you consider essential to your game play aren't available yet for this version, and may not be available for some time.

In the future, the 64 bit engine of this version will probably offer some decisive advantages, but it's going to be weeks, months, or forever before the Special Edition modding scene can compete with the original, and since some of the mod authors are in the wind, some mods are never going to be updated.

At the end of the day, this edition of the game is primarily for the benefit of console players (who get a more functional and now moddable experience), and PC players who don't mod the game. If the modding community can, in time, exploit this version to create a better experience down the road, that's just icing on the cake.

Curiosity is the only reason I can think of.

you shouldn't. my original skyrim (with mods) runs better and looks sooo much better than this version.

The only upside is that I can alt tab now, but if I alt tab during a loading screen, I have to go ctrl+alt+delete and restart my computer completely because it won't bring up my task manager.

Same non-game breaking bugs; ya. Bethesda got most of the bugs that will break you game. But, ya know there's still Unofficial Patch team.
plus if your internet isn't really fast it is a mess to use mods with it.
Not sure what this means... Do you think the new Skyrim is a streaming game? Mods aren't streamed; you download them from 1st party (Bethesda) or 3rd party (Nexus, Alliance, Dark Creations).
Besides, it has way less mods available for it
That's because the new Creation Kit hasn't gone public yet (comes out next week) and it is a new game. Give it some proper time and the community will eventually transition over.
The official teams are already working on SKSE64, FNIS, and hopefully SKYUI isn't far behind.

Ya, but this is true for every mod hosting site; including the Nexus (in fact the Nexus may be more strict).

Because they fixed nothing and added new bugs....

The Ultimate Skyrim experience!

I had not played it yet (still downloading) but I think it is best you wait maybe a year or 8 months then make your desicion on this matter when the modding community (hopefully) long took off.

Better graphics and stability
redwolf9 Oct 29, 2016 @ 5:07pm
graphics, stability, and 64-bit architexture all good reasons ...but the added memory access allows the AI to improve as well in large battles - no more of the numerous AI characters just standing around waiting to have the cpu/memory resources to act in large battles, they will now start acting appropriately right away.

(the greater memory access may actually allow for far more mods being able to be run and run nicely, though I can't confirm this).
