Weird flashing grey color/texture glitch.
So far the game is absolutely terrible. Normal Skyrim looks and performs better than this. Idk if it's the game or my settings. It's extremely laggy and slow, and in addition, every character, animal, tree, flag, etc. has these flashing grey spots. Any object in the game that moves pretty much does this. Any ideas why? I have a GTX970 card, I tried changing the perfomrance to High in the NVIDIA control panel but that did nothing.

You need a dedicated GPU to play the game. Your laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements. If you bought the Special Edition then refund it. If you got it free with the old version then use the old version.

Guess I will, thanks for clearing that up!

Desktop. GTX 970, ASUS motherboard, i7 Intel CPU. None of these solutions have yielded any results and for some reason my NVIDIA Control Panel seems to have different options.

@Kabalzo: I see the " CUDA - GPUs" option in my control panel as well so this leads me to believe you might have just been looking in the wrong place.

Do me a favor and go back into your control panel. On the left, select the "Manage 3D settings". To the right, in the main window there should be the bold words "I would like to use the following 3D settings:". Directly underneath this bold phrase should be tabs that say "Global Settings" and "Program Settings". In the "Global settings" tab select the dropdown box labeled "Preferred graphics processor:" and change it from "Auto-select" to "high-performance NVIDIA processor".

Next, go to the "Program Settings" tab. From here you should be able to follow the steps from my earlier post. At least I really hope so. I can't seem to find any other fix for this particular problem.

I have fixed the issue. You are not going to beleive this but here was the problem. If you go to NVIDIA control panel and select desktop you can select "Show GPU Activity". I did that and was able to see that the gameswas not running on the GPU even though the control panel settings gave no indication of that. I haven't played many high intensity games of late so I've never noticed a problem with quality before.I have a dual monitor setup. I had my main monitor plugged into the HDMI on my motherboard and the secondary plugged into the HDMI on the graphics card. Anyways, I switched the monitors around and now it works fine. Graphics and lag issue is resolved. Thanks for the ideas and help everybody.

Hmm, that is definitely odd. I'll give you credit on your statement on this one. The reason I asked about memory is I had the exact same issue with Fallout 4 on my old video card because it didn't have enough ram on it to load all the texture data for where I was. I have not seen that glitch in my game, and I have a 960 GTX 4GB Superclocked in mine. Any texture mods? Just trying to tthink of what the problem might be before immediately jumping to bad engine (not denying the possibility, believe me).

Just running vanilla right now. Only other thing I could find that might have helped is in NVIDIA Control Panel I went to "Configure Surround, PhysX" and I changed the PhysX setting to my 970 instead of autoselect. Otherwise it can auto select between your gpu and cpu, maybe that's an issue? Between all the problems people have expressed on this thread it seems it is either becuase their gpu isnt good enough or the game is not running on it. I guess make sure it's actually running on your 960. In the NVIDIA Control Panel select Desktop on the top bar and then "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area". It shows up in the bottom right with your other notifications and it'll tell you exactly what is running on your gpu.

Hmm, I'm not sure on the Physx thing. As far as I know Skyrim doesn't use any Physx stuff, as the game utilizes Havok, besides my (rather limited) knowledge on Physx is that it only does things like particles and cloth effects, which would have no effect on the textures of buildings. Has it been doing this since you first loaded it up? and have you tried verifying your cache? If neither of those work... I'd say load this mod into the game and see if that fixes it: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38491/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D38491&pUp=1

It could just be a corrupted texture somehow. I've been using this mod for a few days (as it is only textures, no meshes or esps) and haven't had any problems, in fact the 2k version is the same size as the vanilla textures of this Special edition and look better to boot.

It was like that from the beginning. I verified it and uninstalled it twice with nothing improved. Maybe you didn't see my reply to Jarl Fish but I fixed my issue already. I have two monitors and I just switched the HDMIs around. Had my main into my ASUS Z710 and other into my 970. Switched them around and that solved the issue. Not sure if that's really an ideal fix but the game runs fine now.

Just to add 2 cents to this otherwise closed problem - the textures flickering around like that was happening on mine as well and the fix was to force vertical sync on in the nVidia control panel.

Under #2, where it says, "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program", choose the High-performance NVIDIA processor" option. If it previously showed "Use Global Setting - Integrated", then this was your problem. Click the [Apply] button at the bottom for your changes to take effect. This will fix your performance lag and texture flicker."

He didn't really detail it but you might have to browse to the <....Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition> folder and select the SkyrimSE.exe. Do this for the SkyrimSELauncher.exe as well.

Good luck!
Thanks man, this worked! Just a side note, there were two .exe's that I had to change over. I'm not sure if I found an old/extra one or if it actually takes both of them to work.
