How to fix "Unable to find an INI file" ?

Hello, when i start my game he made an error "Unable to find an INI file, please reinstall skyrim special edition." How to fix this error without reinstall? thx

i have the same problem and dont reinstall i dose not work. i have reinstalled 4 times now and i still dose not work. I also tried to go to properties/ local files/ then somehting like game chache and try to do that it maybe works for you.

Well, that's the internet & it's not the 90's... Just some1 should upload this ini file to share with the others who have problem to download via Steam...

i have launch in admin and in compatibility mode W7 and i'ts work

This happens because you don't have the following files in C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition
- Saves (Folder)
- Skyrim.ini
- SkyrimPrefs.ini

So to resolve the issue, instead of launching the game through SkyrimSELauncher.exe start the game with SkyrimSE.exe , doing this would create the above mentioned files at the respective path.

Then you can continue the same with SkyrimSELauncher.exe

if that doesnt work guys simply create Skyrim.ini (bopth of them had error running them so i created the .ini file in C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition)

If you have 2 drive it his important to do it in my documents (maybe you changed it to your second drive with a little technique) but yeah you create Skyrim.ini and launch SkyrimSELauncher and BAM it works

How do I launch it from SkyrimSE.exe? it says that I cant launch that. Only SkyrimSELauncher.exe will launch.

tried on my pc. skyrimse.exe launches skyrimselauncher.exe which is the program that creates the .ini files. "can't launch" is the exact error msg?

if you are using windows one drive, that moves the ini files into the one drive folders. the game does NOT read One Drive folders.

Better still create a new folder call it Steam and copy and paste the steam folder/games etc into it. Then delete the old steam folder from programs file folder(usually x86) this is for windows which may cause issues.

You just bumped an old tread that is from 2016.. Will most likely get locked now.

You have to launch the game through the launcher. Not the skyrimse(dot)exe
