HD Texture DLC needed "again" !
Ive gone through the Textures and their Resolution is exactly, Vanilla without HD Texture DLC, the Textures of the Special Edition are the worst Quality of all possible variations. You can look in the bsa's, look at the code or simple watch this....

I thought at first its only a blur effect but after playing around with sharpenings without any improvement i take a look at the Textures to realize that they are only half the Resolution of the HD Texture DLC from the original.

From what I've read, mods arn't compatible out of the gate... they may need to be recompiled in the new creation kit, but don't ask me how... since I never modded any bethesda titles in my life.

This is msotly true because of filetypes. I can't remember the detals off the top of my head, but a lot of files will need to be converted to new formats, this includes .bsa's and other texture, as well as some audio files. Much of this needs the creation kit, so it will likely be ported in the enxt week or so.

That sounds about right (from what I've read) and at least once the creation kit is released, then we can probably start seeing more familiar mods start to come, well except for those that require SKSE (or is SKSE:SE released now?)

I think it will be a little while before SKSE:SE is released. I'd give it a week or so before mods are up and running properly.

Textures work I've heard. Only tga files aren't compatible which almost no mod used.

I think you can install texture mods that don't require an ESP. I believe it is the ESP from mods that need to be fixed to work with SE. So mods like SMIM won't work right until their ESP is updated.

The only thing about modding textures from old Skyrim to SE that I am not sure of, is I read somewhere that some textures may not look right because of DX 11 and may need their colors tweaked or something, but I do not know if that is true.

I have also unpacked all the BSA files for Skyrim SE and although there are way to many to examine, I noticed that everything looks optimized for a decent computer, not saying that they couldn't be better optimized for higher performance.

The textures seem to be a combination of 1k, 2K, and 4K depending on what the object is, but from what I can tell is that some textures that are 2K and 4K that look grainy like they upscaled a 256 image to a higher quality, like some landscape textures.

Yes, you can install the 2k textures in SSE...but there is some minor reflection issues with some of the textures that don't reflect well in the new SSE lighting update. There is some info in the forum for the mod about eliminating some files pertaining to the mod as a crude fix...until the pack is updated.

I'll be installing the 2k pack in a day or 2...too busy right now.

I'm not even trying to blow this out of proportion, but in my honest opinion, even something as old as Fallout 3 appears to have 'nicer' looking textures. Note I didn't say "better", I didn't say "higher resolution", I said "nicer". They're more appealing to the eye. Textures blend together to form visually pleasing, though dated, scenery. The textures aren't over-contrasted to the point where they could actually introduce even more aliasing to the scene.

Many of the textures in Skyrim Special Edition look like they were passed through a sharpening filter - presumably to offset the atrocious anti-alias methods inherited from Fallout 4. Pine trees of all variations look like they're made out of tinsel!

Not everyone will want their game to look like it's running at 3/4 the resolution they originally set it to, and with FXAA and TAA disabled (at least when I was playing @ 1920x1080); distant trees and a few other 'high detail' texture surfaces start to make your landscape look like it was generated by your GPU in MS Paint.

No mod support for this trash.

Texture packs are fine to add in from the old skyrim nexus. I retexed everything from my 'texture bank' before I even run the game for the first time.

Avoid things with plug-ins until they have an SE counterpart. Example - SMIM

Skyrim 2K HD will work just fine. Nothing extra needed to be done, just install. Any mod that is textures only should work fine. Meshes will not work yet.

Edit: ninja'ed...SMIM is being worked on. It just updated for regular Skyrim and some of the changes were in prep for SE.

I was curious! I run every other game I play at 8xCSAA whenever I can, I swear! Special Edition's FXAA is noticably worse than FXAA for Skyrim, and TAA is, well, complete garbage.
