Dragonborn Sahrotaar Dragon Riding Animation Glitch
So I've gotten to The Summit of Apocrypha and am trying to ride Sahrotaar. I've done the bend will shout and he's landed and told me to climb on. I do - only when I do so, he flies off but my character is sitting in place where he landed floating above the ground.

This isn't the only kind of animations bug I've run into this game, but it's by far the worst. I've also had issues with, say, getting into carriages or using a blacksmith forge - my character will go into third person, and I'll lose all control over everything except x/y movement (I can move, but not change viewing angle or draw weapons). Sometimes I can fix this by re-pushing the button to use the forge if it shows up. I don't know if this is related.

I've seen in other forum posts the suggestion that this may be due to a mod changing Dragon skeletons. I've been using Immersive Dragons, Ultimate Dragons, and Splendor Dragon Variants. I uninstalled the first two of these because they change the skeletons. The bug still happens. I also went into my mod folder to make sure there was no skeleton.nif folder in my dragon character assets. There wasn't after the uninstall, but still not working.

Am I ♥♥♥♥♥♥? Is there any fix for this? I don't want to have to jury rig the game so it will treat the quest as done so I can go back to Skyrim and finish the character I've dumped dozens of hours into.

Did you use 3 dragon mods and removed them for hope the issue fix it self?
I can say right now that remove Ultimate Dragons and continue is not one good idea at all, since it do have lot of scripts that runs. It dont only change the skeleton, it change more then that.
You should never use mods that do more or less the same thing.

Your option is to revert saves to before you did remove them and install those mods again and do it properly, you simply cant delete files random.

How have you installed your mods what tool?

Immersive Dragons can you remove since it only have skeleton files.
All were installed using the nexus manager. By removing these I'm mostly just trying to troubleshoot, I'm keeping saves before and after removal. All of them experience the bug. None of them change the same thing, as far as I can tell - Immersive Dragons just extends the wingspan, Splendor adds more visual variation, Ultimate Dragons actually makes substantive changes to how dragon combat works. My guess would be ultimate dragons, if anything, is the culprit, but removing it didn't help. I know Skyrim is weird with how uninstallations work but I'm too juvenile in modding to understand exactly what's going on.

This is a late game character, I'm up to the point in the main quest where I am acquiring the elder scroll and am also this far in Dragonborn. None of these mods have given me issue so far and I've had them since almost (but not quite) the start.

Nexus manager? Did you use the community updated one then?

That's because, as Uncle said, unless a mod is purely texture/meshes or purely vanilla assets and spawns, you CANNOT remove them midplaythrough. This has been posted ad nauseum in the forums - both original and SSE - since the first release of the game. If you remove/uninstall a mod (except for the very few exceptions cited), you must eith g back to a save made before the mod was installed, or start a new game - no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Furthermore, when troubleshoooting, you do not remove mods - for the same reason. See these two posts (from the pinned topic Helpful Links and References, Section 5, General Troubleshooting),about, respectively, removing mods and the proper method of troubleshooting:

Troubleshooting Your Load Order

Have you removed any other mods? Because some of the issues you mention sound like things that would be caused by doing so. Another things is your build - what mods you are using - there may be conflicts or there be too many scripts and processes for your game to handle and hence some actions are not firing when they should due to be suspended so that other necessary game functions can run. We really need to see your sorted load order. To post your load order, just click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of the LOOT screen, click on copy load order from the drop-down menu, and then paste in the reply box here.

Vortex keeps a .txt version of your mod load order here:
C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition\loadorder.txt
find it and then copy and paste it here.
It's being frustrating and won't let me copy-paste the file - to my memory, the only mod I've uninstalled mid-playthrough is Populated Cities and Towns.

Pardon the eyerape as I dump the load order here.

Populated Cities and Towns probably is safe to remove - as it uses only vanilla assets and spawns, and the new AI packages only effect the spawned NPCs, and not the original vanilla NPCs. However, if any of the new NPC have a;ready spawned, there mayor may not be issues until the cell resets.

Looking at you list, nothing is really jumping out at me at a quick look, but others may spot something. I still wonder if it is just things not firing on time to start actions - which could be causing the issues. If actions are backlogged dues to the game processing other higher priority tasks first, that could explain some things - especially since you say that on occaion things are fixed by just trying again. Also, if this it the case, saving, exiting, and then reloading the save may fix it.

Maybe also post your system specs, as well. To get and post System Specs

At the top left of your Steam screen on small print just above where you see Store, Library, etc., click on Help.
From the drop down menu, click on System Information.
When the box appears, after you information loads, right click in the field where the information is showing
Select Copy all to clipboard

In case someone still has this issue: I ran into it as well (without any mods that affect dragons, so that doesn't seem to be the (only) possible case), and what fixed it was to activate Sahrotaar after using the shout, resulting in the glitch. Then open the console and type "movetoqt DLC2MQ06". The screen should fade to black and back in next to Miraak, but you should be "unglitched". Talking to Miraak will start the combat and the quest should be back on track.
@coffeepyromaniac you saved my play though!!!! I was ready to give up and you were my last hope! Still really buggy but I was able to win the day!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

This didn't work. I'm still stuck in the animation.
