Also why care about it?
I care only because I have so many stolen items in stacks. The chonky inventory system doesn't separate stolen from regular items. It lumps them all together.
For example. I have a pile of 56 common soul gems. Which ones are stolen and How exactly would you propose to find and remove the stolen ones?
Ah well.
Sell the lot to a fence and view it as a learning experience.
Toss them in a drawer and forget about them. You will get more soon enough. Go do a quest in a dwemer ruin if you need more in a hurry.
edit: get arrested and do jail time. When you get out, the guards will have confiscated stolen items.
And in future games don't go around stealing everything in sight unless you belong to a legit Thieves' Guild and have fences available. Non-thieves should not steal or else the TG will come and cut off your hands.
--> That's just it: I'm playing a stealthy, skeezy thief-ranger-assassin. Yup, also a member of those factions too. I noticed Radiant hasn't sent assassins after me since joining the Dark Brotherhood - but maybe that's just coincidence.
But why does it bother you so much?
Because I have stacks of items that have stolen stuff mixed in the middle somewhere as I said. It is cumbersome and tedious to separate the stolen from normal items. Inventory management is not a strong point of Skyrim.
But you dont need to sort them out? Stolen stuff is on the top of the pile in the inventory if you are gona move them around anyway. And you can not sell stolen stuff to vendors that are not fences so they wont even show up there. And soulgems are used by you anyway.
Not true. I have found stolen items in the middle of stacks (i.e. remove a few normal items 1-at-a-time to find a stolen one).
I'm fine with just selling to fences -- provided I can actually locate my stolen items.
For some reason the vanilla game won't recognize stolen filled soul gems when you try to charge depleted weapons.
Oh, well that is a gamechanger then. Yea get USSEP that should fix the problem with charging weapons atleast. But i dont think you can make stolen items un-stolen anymore.
