Marriage Mod causing black face bug.
So the mod marriage - to have to hold seems to be causing the black face bug on brynjolf for some reason and only him, i put the marriage mod on the bottom of the load order but it still has the black face bug, Does anyone know how the marriage mod could cause this bug?

Black Face bug is caused by a mod modifying an NPC that another mod has textures for. So basically what happens is your texture mod is loaded replacing the texture on the NPC with a call to the new texture file name. Then your Marriage Mod does something, like modify that NPCs gear or his dialogue setting or whatever. That overwrites the file name call made by your earlier graphical mod to the NPC, so the textures it loaded are no longer used, instead the game looks for the original texture. But since you overwrote the original texture the game can't find the texture anymore so it loads a "blank" texture which results in a black face.

I explained it badly but that's the idea. To fix it the texture call of your graphical mod has to show up in the final load. If you are using MO2 this can be done relatively easily by ensuring your mod ordera nd your load order are the same. There're YouTube tutorials for it. If you're more advanced you can edit the NPC in the Marriage mod directly though I've never done that myself. I'm not really good at modding this game. Resolving black face bug is a pain but just loading the offending mod at the bottom of the load order isn't usually going to work.

Well that's weird for the texture thing cause all the mod does it allow you to marry more than 1 spouse, so i don't know why it'd screw with textures

Black Face bug happens with mods that don't modify textures. It's because they don't modify textures that the bug happens.

Ah okay, would there be a fix for the issue i'm having?
Mister Cthulhu Feb 5, 2021 @ 11:43pm
Well my fix was disabling the mod entirely, sucks but eh

Make sure you revert to a save before you had the mod installed if you intend to fix your issue that way.

The issue you are describing is caused by facegen data not matching the data of the NPC in question (as defined by the last esp that edits them). It can usually be resolved by adjusting your load order, in this case move your marriage mod as high as possible in your load order.

Install Face Discoloration Fix[www.nexusmods.com] as well as its requirements if you don't already have them, Address Library for SKSE Plugins and SKSE64.

Be sure to read the to the remarks, particularly: "NPC appearance overhauls that use custom sculpts and custom textures are safe to use with this mod installed, but if you have a conflict in your load order that breaks those mods, this mod will not be able to restore the intended appearance. It will only fix the discoloration."

IE: Load order is still important for anyone using Bijin, Pandorable, etc.

This^ While, it is not ideal, for the average player who is just interested in playing the game and doesn't want to get into the whole edit in xEDit thing - that is the way to go - NOT disabling a mod - which will break your save and game (really, how many times do we have to say that? We've already posted that literally hundreds of times in the forums - if not a thousand! So, Brother-Librarian, go back to the save made before you disabled that mod and install the Discoloration fix. From that point on, you should be good to go (unless, there were other mods you disabled at some point for some reason - hope not).
