Mistveil keep desktop crash
Recently upon trying to enter Mistveil Keep (the main hall) the game goes to the loading screen and then instantly crashes to desktop. It's likely not due to mods since the only mod I have running on this save is the unoffical patch. The only other explanation I have for why this might be happening is because I only ever enter Mistveil one time prior to this and that was the imperial quest where you blackmail the stewart, since then the Imperials have taken Riften and thus the Jarl, stewart and guards should have changed, which might be the cause for the crash but I always do the imperial quest line and have never had this issue in the past. Does anyone have a fix for this or at the very least an explanation as to what caused it so it doesn't happen on future saves?

Did you remove mods prior to this save?
No I don't believe so though there is a chance I ran the save accidentally without turning off disabling said mods, though Its unlikely as I haven't gotten an error for missing content. Though now that I think of it I did activate the unoffical patch midway threw the game and not at the start of the save if that helps. Also this save has just been relatively buggy all the way threw, had issues with it for a while, such as a stray blood dragon skeleton kept teleporting to different spots in dawnstar, hired thugs getting stuck behind the glass escape route in the dawnstar sanctuary ect.

Activating the Unofficial Patch after you have been playing will not cause issues, though some bugs which have already been triggered, may not be fixed (which is why it is best to install right at the start).

As to the disabling mods issue (and this is in the way of checking and confirming things), have you ever disabled/uninstalled mods at any time during this playthrough, without rolling back to a save made before they were installed? Because, the data bakes in and cannot be removed, so even if this specific save does not give a missing content message, if you earlier removed mods and continued on from a save which had them (no matter how long ago it may have been), the baked in data is still there and will cause issues. Okay so I came back to it a few a hours later and it worked this time, I have no clue what the issue was, but hopefully I wont encounter it again. Sorry for anyone else who finds this thread hoping to find something conclusive. Though its very possible that this glitch always fixes itself after a while which would explain why every thread I found on the issue just seemed to stop suddenly with no conclusive answer,

Glad it is working! And yes, there are just some things that happen in Skyrim that not even the Nine can explain - LOL!

I've been in a playthrough since June of last year. I'm always adding and removing mods in my game. I'm having the exact same problem with entering the Keep in Riften. If I go in through the barracks door, the load screen finishes, and I see the room the legate is standing in. When I turn ever so slightly, though... the game crashes as if something cannot be rendered in the game. I may have installed a follower that hangs out in the Keep. And I don't have the right skeleton installed for it. So I am looking in my NMM to see what mod I may have added since last going in the Keep just a game week ago.

Not really helpful but I have crashed there a few times. Not lately but within memory. It is one of those "Hotspots" that I remember to do safety saves. Crossroads near Sunderstone Gorge and fort, the Road that leads to old Hrolden, down to kolkegger or up to Markarth, Dragonsreach also, exiting or entering Whiterun, coming anywhere near whiterun,

You just get into the habit.

There are a few places in my Skyrim LE that will crash to desktop whenever I'm going down a road. I'll save game near the area first before I proceed into the crash zone. Usually it's a zone that is a busy four-corners area where multiple spawns can occur.

Skyrim SE crashes in those same areas also. I'm using Unofficial Patches for both games. I will try entering the Keep some other time. Maybe the actor causing the scene to crash will un-spawn itself. In the meantime, I'll go to the Palace of the Kings and see if all the Stormcloak rulers are there still.

ADDED:
It turned out a table furniture mod was crashing my game to the desktop. The table only appears in Mistveil Keep, apparently. I removed the mod and no more *poof*.
