Impossible to launch skse through Game Pass version
I want to install skse to use skyui but i can't launch skse launcher because of this when i click to it "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file" error when you try to install, update or start a program or file".

And that the same thing for SkyrimSELauncher for example.
In fact, the game starts from Xbox App and can't be start from the folder of the game...

I looking for a solution but do you have any tricks or something?

no other fix than buying the game since windows game pass only rents you game and locks/hides the files so they cant be modified

Welcome to Game Pass. If you want mods, you gotta use ingame ones.

You dont actually own the game, so there is no way to mod files, since you're essentially just streaming it
It's a bad move having a moddable game on a format that does not allow modding.... Not counting the ingame modding sections because there are much better mods that are not on it.

At least in theory gamepass does have mod support. It's not blanket support for all apps but certainly a feature that microsoft is actively developing.

In the gamepass interface you need to enable mod support for skyrim se. If there is no such option you are out of luck (for now?). If you have enabled mod support a new folder will be created. Which appearantly is created in program files\moddablewindowsapps\xyz. It is there you have to place your mods.

Now if you have done it this way and can't launch using skse i think you are out of luck as i would suspect this has to do with DRM. Not being able to start the game without the gamepass app would also point to this. Could be you can use mods that get loaded by the game executable but anything like a preloader is excluded by design. This puts into question wether using skse with gamepass will be possible at all.

If sse already has mod support i'd suggest you try a mod like ussep, that does not rely on skse, and see if that works.

disclaimer: Never used gamepass. All info comes from a quick google search. So might be wrong/outdated.

There is normal modding in gamepass bethesda games you have to enable it. Only SKSE doesn't work as far as I can see. Maybe someone finds a workaround

The problem is so many mods require SKSE64, including the one that fixes the engine level bugs... It's a rather reduced list of potential mods....

"SKSE cannot support any potential Windows Store release of Skyrim. Windows Store applications are locked down similarly to consoles and do not allow the APIs necessary for script extenders to work."

From SKSE webstite.
So, not the best choice of plateform to play Skyrim...

yeah as I said, bad move putting it on a platform that doesn't support it.

I'd post about it over on Microsoft. This is the steam forums, for the steam version of Skyrim/Skyrim SE. It's a bit over-the-top to expect people here to know how to solve issues for Microsoft Game Pass Skyrim SE.

And, it's not that we don't want to help - it's just that it's better to not offer help, than to offer help that could be wrong and potentially break your game.

Or get a warning or ban, for attempting cheat/mod the system.

Not sure how Game Pass takes to modding its files, since you technically dont own the game. Havent looked at the EULA

I haven't read the EULA, but I'd assume modding is allowed given the description of the game on game pass, but their will be limitations. They've structured the installation of games on PC to prevent piracy of the games, and mods like SKSE won't work as a result, which is understandable since it would probably circumvent their system, allowing people to continue playing after subscriptions have come to an end. Though I could be wrong, that's just an assumption.

Edit: Though modding files for the game installation or client directly is most likely against the rules. Sorry, my brains a bit out of it atm, still waking up.

Could be they refer to the ingame mods, since they are also user made. But probably they dont see the need to have ALL mods work.

But since SKSE is pretty important for a lot of best mods, its a shame, really

The problem is this, Microsoft made a system that works for Xbox games, then they added non xbox games to it, only it doesn't work the same for these games, so they write the rules to prohibit anything they know doesn't work....

Rather than fixing the actual issue, they make it a legal issue instead...

Now for some games it's ok, but for Skyrim which needs SKSE64 to make some of the FIXES work, it's not..... Now Microsoft will be emphasising the legal aspect which is just cover for it not working as intended.... as such I feel genuine pity for anyone playing on game pass.....
