Modding 7z Question/Concern for SKSE
I'm about to begin modding for the first time via nexus's vortex, which is a very controversial choice shame on me... but my plan is to install SKSE and then grab the mod which enables achievements with mods and go from there.
The thing is though Vortex says I need 7z or 7zip, I think, to download SKSE. After watching the many of Gopher's Vortex videos I thought I wouldn't necessarily need 7zip.

So my question is 7zip needed to install every single mod or only specific mods? Also how safe is it? I'm probably way too paranoid when it comes to my PC. Thanks for any responses.

You can't go wrong with peazip https://peazip.github.io/

7-Zip is perfectly safe and very popular one. I have been using it for a long time. No issues there.

Both Vortex and MO2 come with SevenZipSharp to unpack mod archives. They can't unpack manual installation archives for you though.

And here is 7zip

7zip and peazip are equilvalent, with peazip being based on 7zip, and it has better aesthetics.

You can also use *WinRAR [www.win-rar.com] Get 64bit. Make sure to get the Trial Version it never expires even after trial (same with 7zip)

If plan is to install SKSE and then grab the mod which enables achievements with mods and go from there..........

I'd suggest you follow my guide as imo you should use "SSE Engine Fixes" to enable achievements since it also fixes some bugs and improves the game engineand as long as we're on the subject of bugs you should also have the "Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch" (should be called the official patch).

So my recommendation would be to take mods 1-4 from the guide and go from there:

Okay thanks, so to sum up what I've read.
Vortex comes with SevenZipSharp which I'll will work for downloading certain files, but not manual downloads. So I'll decide on an unzipper program, because I'll clearly need it.

As for the video I foolishly thought I would have been fine watching only Gopher's tutorials, but I clearly need to do more research, so I'll read Vlad's guide sometime soon.

Thanks, and obviously if I misunderstood Vortex and the SevenZipSharp connection then please correct me. Thanks again.

If you're downloading mods from Nexus, almost every mod available will have a "Vortex" button and will be able to be downloaded and installed with Vortex. I may be mistaken, but manually downloaded mods can be moved or downloaded to the to the Vortex managed download folder and then installed using Vortex. This is how you would use and install mods from other sites. I believe only mods that have to be installed in ..common\Skyrim Special Edition folder (not ...common\Skyrin Special Edition\Data) cannot be installed with Vortex with SKSE being the exception. There may be other mods Vortex can install there, but I don't use them.
