HELP - edit ENB for more FPS
Hi,

I installed and use the CFL II enb mod. (not available anymore on nexusmods, the owner removed it). It comes with 2 presets, performance and quality. Default (highest), and performance.

However, the difference between the two is pretty big, I wish there was a preset in between. I tried default (the highest and default) but I struggle with around 35-50fps. I dont want to go back anymore to performance cause the difference is huge. Can I tweak things myself to get a stable 50-ish fps? And if so, how? I'm not an ENB expert. For example, the DOF effect in the background is a bit to heavy for my taste, costs that alot of power? If so, that is one of the effects I would like to lower.

My Skyrim settings are all high (TAA, 1080p, detail and view ditance high). Too bad I cant link to the enb mod.

Please anyone, could use some advice.

The big difference between default (high) and performance are the DOF in the background, which I like, and some sort of glow-ish effect which make all kinds of objects, your character, buildings etc, stand more out. The performance is more flat and mainly changes only the colors.

Can I upgrade the performance one, or otherwise downgrade the default one to get more fps but still have that nice effect?

Yes. Yes ,you can. You can always turn off some feature to gain some performance.
When in game, bring up the ENB console.

They should look like this:
ENB Console [farm1.staticflickr.com]
By default, Shift+Enter is the shortcut to bring up the console but different ENB mod author may change the combination to bring up the console.

Under [EFFECT] drop down list.
Turn things on and off and see which one you personally think would be fine without.

In that console, you can do fine adjustment to DOF as well. If you'd want it to be lowered or out-right removed but keep everything else, you can always do so by unchecking the Depth of Field box.

Good luck!

Here's some basics so you won't feel like you're felling around in the dark

video by firemanaf

btw, firemanaf has some great enb's and each comes with 3 versions

Thanks guys, that is really helpfull. I already gained some frames with the high default preset.

I tried some of firemanaf his enb's but its not my taste. Maybe I will try again later again and tweak it to my taste. I still use CFL II, but unlike firemanaf it comes only with 2 presets, one high and one performance, no mid-range which I need.

I'm now using BethIni to tweak the Skyrim settings to gain some more frames, hope to get atleast a steady 50fps :)

What is the name of the effect that makes everything look more 'smooth', all objects, textures, characters. I can't really explain... some sort of lighting 3D effect orsomething.

That's pretty broad tbh. Not exactly sure what?

Sharpening?
FXAA? AA?
Parallax?
Bloom?
Post shader?
SSS?

General lighting isn't an effect, it's render. If that's what you're asking..

Damn, its really difficult to explain without the option to show an example. Try this, search in Google 99142582.jpg, go to images and there appears 1 Skyrim image. The effect is pretty good visible on the left on the rocks.
I see Chroma shift (Chroma Abberation) and DOF.. that's about it.

If everything you really want from ENB is color correction, then use ReShade instead. No reason to tone every FPS hungry setting down to the point when it's almost non-existent. That way, the main feature of ENB will be eliminated. Also I'm not sure TAA or any in-game AA should be enabled when using ENB.
IMO ofc.

No, I dont want only color correction. The performance mode has basically only color correction presets, with maybe a few other adjustments. The default (quality) has so much more.

I could start from the performance mode and tweak it till what I would like to see, but I dont know the names of the effects I want.

I know I like the DOF effect, it removes a bit the ugly distant textures, smooths things which I like, and gives a more cinematic feel. The color correction as well ofcourse, and then some other tweaks.

@SgtPow3rs

Couple of things. Have you tried "The Truth" ENB?

It's an excellent lightweight enb.
The mod page has much information that will help continue your education on enb.

This mod was on Nexus however recently moved to AFK mods which is an excellent website from Arthmoor, the creator of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, Alternate Start Live Another Life, The Paarthurnax Dilemma, etc.

You'll need to sign up for a free account

Thanks for the tip, I have looked but that ENB is not my taste. Looks too much like vanilla, a bit boring I might say. One of the reasons I like "CFL II - Cinematic Film Looks for SSE" is that it comes with 60 color presets you can use.

I think I found a nice solution. I reinstalled the Performance one of CFL II - Cinematic Film Looks for SSE, and I noticed the mod comes with optional DOF files. I really liked the DOF effect in the Default (quality). I installed the DOF files aswell and now I have almost a similar setup with around 50-59-ish fps :)
Good for you!

Good catch - I am not familiar with CFL II but I know firemanaf covers that same thing in his videos because his comes with those options as well.

Congrats and enjoy
