Viarmo "Tending The Flames" Not Reading Verse
So i have this weird 'bug' but i believe it is on purpose and I just want to bring it to light for any1 else experiencing it.
This isn't really a game breaking issue but when i talk to Viarmo after travling to the blue palace to perform king olafs verse, I talk to him and instead of him performing, the quest instantly completes itself. I looked all over for this same bug but couldn't find it-until i read what Elisif does after hearing the verse. Elisif will say she will talk to general Tulius about renewing the fesitval, but theres one problem, Tulius is dead in my game since i completed the stormloaks side of the civil war. I found this quite funny and was wondering if any1 had this problem/can recreate the issue as i doubt there is a fix to it since it seems intended.

If you try to play the scene with a missing actor the scene would freeze like the bug where ALduin does not show up to fight the heroes. Normally you could debug it with a moveto command on the missing NPC like the Alduin bug solution. However since the NPC is dead a moveto will not work if the body is gone already (scenes can move dead bodies to their positions they were supposed to be alive at.)

There is a couple other instances where a quest auto completes because you completed Civil War first. This is because the NPCs in Whiterun, Solitude, and Windhelm may be dead or in exile.
so are you saying this is a vanilla "bug"? some are saying it's mod related but i didnt think it would be.
It aint a bug. It is how the code is written so it does not bug. The quest stages are rewritten to skip to completion. (most likely a Tulius alive true/false inquiry)

You completed Civil War first and Tulius is dead (You sided with Stormcloaks)
Elisif still sits on the Solitude throne.
Tulius can not take part in the reading scene.
If the scene attempted to play without Tulius the scene would just hang at his part.

You also have these stages:
https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Tending_the_Flames
Objective 225: Steal General Tullius' Coat
I am to be inducted into the Bards College at the Burning of King Olaf festival. Unfortunately the festival cannot begin until the effigy is done and Jorn will not complete it without General Tullius' Coat. I must steal the coat and return to Jorn.
Objective 254: Steal General Tullius' Coat
I am to be inducted into the Bards College at the Burning of King Olaf festival.
Unfortunately the festival cannot begin until the effigy is done and Jorn will not complete it without General Tullius' Coat. I must place the coat on the effigy.
Obviously with Tulius dead those objectives would fail.

There is many quests involving the Jarls that have a different version or autocomplete because the Jarls and their housecarls can be placed in exile to Solitude/Windhelm.

Of course seeing these happen differently is all going to depend when or if you do civil war and depend on which side you choose. As in if you side with Stormcloaks everything would be normal in Riften before or after Civil War. If you side with Imperials then certain quests after Civil War will be different.

Never knew that bug existed. Then again I rarely do the Civil War questline. But even when doing it I usually side with the guy that tried to behead me :steamfacepalm:

Except, Katsoa, if it is mod related (and I think it is, as I have never seen this particular bug listed anywhere) unless it is known what mod is causing it, it doesn't really help - just serves to confuse things. I'm not saying you did wrong in posting - it is good to post issues that are encountered in the game for others to be aware of, but posting without knowing the cause of the issue or what mod is at the root of the problem is not much use.

Anyway, glad it did not effect your game! Enjoy!

Also if it is a mod it makes you wonder what other bugs may turn up.

This is true, I want to start a new playthrough soon with a less heavy mod load order and see if it happens again. If i find a mod that actually caused the problem ill update the thread. Just wanted to see if anyone else encountered it haha
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
