Best city overhaul mod?
Hi guys.

I am looking at mods, and dont really care for big new quest mods.
But I like the 'overhaul' mods.. and was wondering if there are any great city overhaul mods, that make them either more beatufiull, or larger or more interesting.

I read on nexus to get 'Holds The City Overhaul' but dont know if that still applies to special edition. Also I cant find it under the ingame 'mod' list

Don't look in the ingame mods. What you are describing can be found at Nexus Mods.

Here's the Skyrim Special Edition section of Nexus which is by far the best place to get all your mods.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition
Look for mods like

Cities of the North
JK's
The Great Cities

The mod "Open Cities" is no longer found anywhere but here:
https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/files/file/1905-open-cities-skyrim/
Which is not really a City Overhaul but more of a "No loading screens" type mod.

I've found some cities mods not so good, not looked at the ones stated above.

Not so much a 'city overhaul' but it covers just about everything in the 'wilderness' (does apply to the special edition) - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13196

On looking at this I've discovered there is a V2 - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/22392

It adds so much to the external locations, some have been changed almost beyond recognition

Which one is the best performance wise?

RedBag's Solitude.

If I were going for performance I'd choose arthmoor's mods. His are mostly for towns and villages by basically expanding them. Be sure, if you use them, to load them after your landscape mods.

The rest will depend on if you are using a texture overhaul replacer for the cities or mods that add content.

And out of the ones you mentioned?

If I had to say, and much of course depends on the rest of your mods, then to pick one I'd say JK's mods.

I am enjoying Capital Whiterun and Capital Windhelm, by Surjamte, on nexus. They both have compatibility options, so they can be installed along with JK's (which is a given.)

Also have a look at Dawn of Skyrim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9074

I would not use holds ok I used it a couple of times, but it tends to be a compatibility nightmare especially with landscape mods Oh and some mods screw up the nightmare quest in Dawnstar royally especially the pathfinding of Erandur

I go with a mix.
JK's Whiterun i do use a few of the indoor overhauls The Blue Palace etc.
Dawnstar two mods - Cities of the North - plus Dawnstar Overhaul.
Morthal - Cities of the North - Morthal.
Winterhold - Cities of the North - Winterhold.
Riften - Riften in High Definition.
Markarth Entrance Overhaul Fixed.
Windhelm - City Entrances Overhaul - Windhelm.
Falkreath - The Great City Of Falkreath.
Solitude three mods - RedBag's Solitude plus Solitude Exterior Addon plus Solitude HD by CleverCharff 4K.

I also have.
1. The Great City of Rorikstead
2. The Great City of Dragon Bridge i really like this one.
Plus a few more towns and villages nothing too big.
