Why are items in my inventory worth less when I sell them?
For examle I have a migical robe that is worth 3000 gold but when I sell it to a merchant it's worth like not even 1000 gold

Because you suck at selling.

ok well got any advice on who to sell to?

There are several things you can do to increase prices. The Amulet of Zennithar and the Blessing of Zenithar will increase your selling. The Haggling perk under Speech will help. Giving the begger a coin will also improve prices.

I recommend Major Slack's channel. Here is the video on the "Business Suit" it will show you construct one and get the Thief's Guild Hood which also improves prices.

Also leveling speech to 50 and getting the Merchant Perk will allow you to sell anything to any merchant. This is important since most skill trainers are also merchants so the ability to buy skill training and then sell merchandise back to them to recover your gold cannot be understated.

That wasn't an insult. Because your speech skill is low, you can't get as much gold as someone with a higher one. You can invest perk points to get more and even sell more, also stolen goods. Have fun!

ok thank you :)

The value you see in your inventory is the "base price" and every item you sell is bought by the merchant for a percentage less than that base price, and that same item being sold by the merchant is now a percentage higher than the base price. Things like your speech skill level, perks in the speech skill tree, and some items (or blessings from Zenithar) that affect speech or prices directly will decrease that percentage's increase/decrease of the price.

Once you get to know Smithy, you will realise it probably was an insult.

It's a short version of the truth, not an insult. As was said, you have to have the relevant perks, skill level, and other bonuses related to mercantile to get better prices going both ways, because, as in real life, what you have has to be re-sold for a profit, while what you want to buy has to sell for the highest price for the seller's benefit.

This is why looting in general is not the way to go, and most people go with the "cheap/free ingredients that make a valuable potion" route, or iron daggers enchanted with soul trap.

Tombs may seem a bit light on gold, with Meridia's Temple having the highest payout, aside from the Deathbrand tomb on Solstheim, but on average, it's the most economical path to wealth (or even a living wage).

Once you have the perks and other bonuses, then you take your most valuable loot to sell it, though it'll always show a higher value in your inventory.

1. Because your speech skill is not high enough. With speech 0 shop selling price is around 300% higher than the orginal price, and only paid you around 1/3 from the ORGINAL price when you sell it back to them.eg. an item orginal price is $1000,
we may need to buy at around $3000 and sell at around $300. :br_cry: :br_cry:
When our speech skill reach 100,
it will be buying price around $2000 selling at around $500.:br_cry:
2. Because you didn't have the Fortify Barter artifacts and special perk in speech.
If you have 2 ""highest"" Fortify Barter artifacts, price for small items the buy sell price will be the same.
Don't be frustrated. The price will get better. Finally money is not a problem.
Happy gaming.:yay:

None Skyrim language answer. Think of it like this, you buy a car and it has a base price but as soon as you get it home you will never get or sell it for what you paid for it. Skyrim is much like it is in real life which is what the writer's of this game are trying to make you feel as you immerse yourself into this wonderful game. You build or earn your selling and buying skills like you would in real life. Another example, you go to an antique store and find something you like, a skilled antique buyer will never pay what is asked because over the years they have acquired buying and selling skills or perks.

Bottom line, that's the way it is in real life and why you can get sucked into this game. Not a bad thing.

From anyone else, I would accept that.
When Smithy or his female friend (who keeps changing her name) says it, they mean the insult.

I understand that it refers to how the speechcraft skill works, but take a look at Smithy's comments over a longer period of time, and you will notice that ten times out of nine (not a typo) he means the insult.
