Skill books stopped working

Started a new game. When I read the first skill book, it didn't award anything... neither did the second or third. New playthrough was set up using the same mods I've always used (installed with NMM and sorted with Loot). I bit the bullet, and decided to do a complete uninstall of Skyrim and all mods.

Reinstalled the game, and used Vortex to install the mods (again, same mods, but freshly downloaded). It took me two days to do the entire install. Started the game again, and the same problem occurred... still no skill book rewards.

My game is completely stable, and this is the only issue I'm having. I don't have any mods installed which would affect the skill books. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

Even though mods may not intend to effect certain things, they may, in fact, have records that do so. Please post your LOOT sorted load order. To post your load order, just click on the 3 verticle dots in the upper right corner of LOOT screen, click on copy load order from the drop-down menu, and then paste.

I have got that issue, it turned out to be problems in my loadorder.

To start off, I'd be leary of Unofficial Skyrim SE Fixes. 2 reasons:

First, it changes basic things in the game, so who know exactly what records it's effecting (unless it is cracked open in xEdit to see); and this, from the description:
"Disabled respawn of some unique items (like Journals and Books) - still work in progress" - right there is something possibly relating to skill books.

And, even more cause to wonder about it, there is no Posts section on the mod's page - that is always a red flag. Anyway, that would be the first mod I would look at as being a possible cause of the problem.

I am fairly familiar with almost all of your other mods, and none of them jump out at me as being related to your issue.

It may also be one Papyrus issue.
Do OP have Jcontainers and PapyrusUtil installed?

Thanks for replies. smr1957, you might be right about the Unofficial Skyrim SE Fixes mod. I tried to contact the author of the mod, and ended up messaging him on the Nexus forums, since he seems to have disabled comments... but no reply yet.

If his mod is the cause of the issue, its consequences must be baked into the saves, because removing it didn't help, and since it was installed at the beginning of the currunt playthrough, I'm stuck with the bug.

Uncle64[SwE], I do have the PapyrusUtil installed. Why would that cause problems? I've disabled both mods, so I'll see if that helps next time I play. Again, thanks for the help.

No you have need for them, since several of your mods have them as soft depenence. And no mod are allowed to overwrite the files from them.
Dont disable them.
