A Comprehensive Guide to using ElminsterAU's xEdit
https://tes5edit.github.io/docs/index.html
Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\meshes\actors\character\facegendata\facegeom\[NAME OF NPC].esp folder of any other mod that would change Aela, for example, only keeping the .nif file in the folder of the mod you are actually using to change her appearance.
For Textures, that would be the .dds file (and .tga file, if any) found in \Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\textures\actors\character\facegendata\facetint\[NAME OF NPC].esp folder of any other mod that would change Aela, for example - only keeping the .dds file in the folder of the mod you are actually using to change her appearance.
Basically, once those particular folders are totally empty, you can then delete the folder itself, but that is not necessary.
After doing this, you would use xEdit to remove Aelas's record (or whatever NPC it may be) from those mods that you are not using to change the appearance. In this manner, there is absolutely no file or record (other than the base game files which are never touched) for that NPC except the one that is going to be used.
And, ALWAYS make a backup before making any changes - just in case.
Now, the best way, of course, is to just use load order to overwrite, which obviates the need to do all the above, but when using multiple mods that change NPCs, sometimes it is not possible if you are mixing and matching.
Frankly, I would suggest that, initially, you just pick one NPC overhaul and not mix and match, at least at first. But, you don't learn without doing, and if you get sufficiently advanced in your modding, at some point you will need to learn to do these things.
And, besides backing up, once you have made the changes, TEST after you do this, to ensure that things are appearing as they should.
There are some other more advanced things to look out for - but I'll leave that for another time, as they are rare occurrences usually only encountered when using and merging custom followers and will not usually be encountered in the vast majority of situations.
Also, here is my current load order, already fixed most issues in LOOT besides one or two incorrect patch messages. The ones that are not activated were automatically deactivated by LOOT. Also, I have 354 plugins total right now:

So any advice on what I should do with this load order?
Unlock your list. Run it through LOOT, and apply. Sorry but your order is a mess. Good example, XPMSE. To high up in your load order. That alone can cause the crashes, cause you have some files overwriting it. Which should be overwritten by XPMSE.
Also, have you been testing the game as you add mods, to ensure that everything is running as it should?
As to that vid, it is basically correct. I would advise, however, that instead of making a patch, you just drag and drop the records (which is what he says he does, usually - and which, more significantly, is how I do it). There is much more involved and it gets much more advanced, of course, which is just one reason why it is strongly suggested that you do not make a build which is beyond your abilities - because the conflict resolution becomes increasingly complex the greater the number of mods you have. Also, if you are not sure of the value which you are changing, do not change it! And, always back up before exiting.
One last thing, he alludes to updating mods and says that is one reason for making a patch instead. The thing is, though, once you begin a playthrough, you should NEVER update any mods. Only update once you decide to begin a new playthrough.
Take your time. And ask before doing if not sure.
As to conflict resolution, give me a bit as I am writing something up now for it.
But, suffice to say, for the moment, you only drag and drop the individual record being overwritten that you wish to carry forward.
Now, ss to drag and drop, you do it as shown in that vid. Once you have loaded things into xEdit, you just drag and drop the particular individual record. But, first there is seeing what is needed, and this is where things start to get complicated and where experience and complete know of what particular mods do is of extreme importance. First, load you build into xEdit. Once it has finished loading right click anywhere in the left hand pane, as shown:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2278425020
Next, the Filter options box will appear, set it up as shown below and then click on Filter and let xEdit run:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2278426075
Once the filter has finished being applied (this may take a while depending upon the size of your load order), the left hand pane will appear something like as shown below:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2278427441
What you most are interested in are the items that are red writing on a red background - indicating that they are being overwritten by another mod.
If it is just a matter of a record from one mod that you wish to resolve and not the entire build (I will return to that in a moment), then what you would do is expand the that mod's .esp. As an example, you can see that below, I have expanded the records for FF Jolly Horker.esm and have expanded the subcategories to arrive at the record for 0006C3B6. Clicking on that record will show all the information in the right hand pane, side by side with the mod or mods which are overwriting it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2278440907
To simply things, you want to only see the records that are actuallyinvolved in the conflict and hide the others, so to get thing to look as they do above, you need to right click in the right hand pane and select Hide no conflict and empty rows:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2278441842
Now, you would take the record in the right hand pane that is in red for the Jolly Horker, and left clicking it, drag it to the mod that is furthest to the right - thus overwriting all the other records and ensuring that that record will be the one that appears in the game. But, let us use a better example to show things. In the below picture, we see Cutting Room Floor records being overwritten by records from Relationship Dialogue Overhaul:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2256786290
In this case, you would left click on all those individual records in CRF that are red, and holding the left mouse button down, drag the record to the box containing the record overwriting it. You would do this for each record (I don't have a picture of the result, but the vid you posted shows exactly how it is done).
NOW, the important caveat. If you are unsure of doing something in xEdit - then don't! A lot of conflict resolution requires a lot of experience, and complete and total knowledge of exactly what the mods do and what they need - not all conflicts are bad. So, you need to take it slow.
As to resolving conflicts in your entire build, that is for only the most advanced of modding. You would start with the Unofficial Patch, looking at every single record that is being overwritten in it - and there are thousands - and deciding for each record whether to forward it to the mod overwriting it, or whether the mod overwriting it requires the changes to remain as they are. And then, once you had finished with all the conflicts in the Unofficial Patch, you would proceed to do the same for the next mod in the load order - and so on, until completed - and this can take a TREMENDOUS amount of time - more than most people really want to spend, and probably, even more than is necessary for most game play. So I would strongly advise against it until you get to a more advanced level and can practically do it all in your sleep.
For now, only be concerned with specific individual records that you may notice in game, and try to resolve as many as you can with just the load order - as stated at the very start of this post.
1. What should I do if the game crashes? I had a modded game a little while ago and then it started having major problems - specifically a corrupted save file. All the saves were corrupt and the save file cleaner programs did not help. Instead, they caused mesh and texture problems. That's why I started trying to learn a lot more and trying to solve a lot of these issues.
2. What would be the best way to make my load order smaller (under the 254 plugin limit)? I have heard of several ways to do so, but some seem risky and/or troublesome to deal with.
3. There are some minor problems that LOOT says it detected. Some of which include: LOOT says a patch exists for something when I can't seem to find it anywhere, it says that a mod version is out of date when it seems to actually be the most recent update, deleted navmeshes? I'm assuming that's also a more major issue potentially?
