Copy of the Old Ways
Received a quest from Ungar at the College Library in Windhelm entitled "Find a Copy of the Old Ways". I can't locate it on the map. Is this a bug? Will I be able to get another quest from Ungar? Can this be fixed?

First of all, there is no npc named Ungar.
Secondly, there is no college or a college library in Windhelm.

I assume you are doing "Fetch me that book!" from Urag, the librarian of the college library in Winterhold.
Here are the locations of "The Old Ways" - copy and pasted from https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/The_Old_Ways#Skyrim

Fort Kastav, inside Fort Kastav Captain's Quarters area, on a bookshelf.
Movarth's Lair on a table
Nightingale Hall on a book shelf along with some other books, after the Thieves Guild questline has been completed.

Here are the links to the locations:

It also may be referring to a location outside the main map. Solsteim would be my guess. I don't think radiant quests send you to Forgotten Vale. You can catch the boat at the Actual Windhelm Docks. Have at least 500 gold (Fare for traveling too and back).

I don't think just any book will do (I could be wrong.).

Thanks for the reply. Of course its a quest for Urag at Winterhold. My bad on that. Thanks for the locations although I don't think it will help. Since it is a quest the location should pop up on the map. i'll give it a try any way.

If it doesn't show on the map, you should still be able to finish the quest any way as there are multiple ways of obtaining the book. For quests where you need to grab unique books, location and map markers are guaranteed, but for this one, it'd be understandable if there isn't. Good luck!

Thanks to all those who replied. Found a note from Urag. It reads. Book-The Old Ways
Location- Bristleback Cave Solstheim. I haven't got there yet in the Special Edition. I played ES twice on the old version. Have not got there yet on Special Edition. I'm going back to my old favorites because they are my favorites.

Well problem is that it can't be ANY copy of the book the quest is linked to a certain copy. Had the same problem and I had another copy of the book in my inventory and I tried to give it to Urag no bueno. Yea can happen is's on Solstheim or even the Forgotten Vale I use a mod that exclude dlc or mod locations (quests are in skyrim)

i have another plan
some mods add new lands
perhaps thats where you can find the book
it might be worth a look
after all your mod was not made by a god
and perhaps this outcome escaped there fix log

That actually Happens quite a bit with Vomenheim/Hammet's Dungeons mods Not saying it's bad, just saying it happens. And those Dugeons are no Joke...No siree. You don't walk into one alone and under 50.

Its on Solstheim. Traveled to the Island, selected the quest and Bristleback Cave showed up.

Add the mod "quests are in Skyrim" and you get rid of those quests that sends you off to places you cant go for what ever reason.
