Fugitive miniquest question

That random encounter where a Fugitive gives you an item and tells you he'll come back for it later, and then a hunter shows up and asks if you saw the guy
If you don't tell the hunter where the fugitive is and then fast travel away or something so that the Fugitive isn't found and killed, does he ever come back for it? He says he will and that he'll pay you then, but I googled it to try to find an answer and I couldn't find anything that says he ever comes back for it.
Giving the weapon to the hunter just gets me 1 coin.

the hunter finds him and kills him. When the hunter stops you he ask you if you seen him. Which doesnt really matter as hes not really asking if you seen him out of necessity to find him. That is it doesnt matter he would find him regardless of the player character.


The only real option when the hunter stops you to ask you if you have seen him is whether or not you tell him about the item the thief gave you.


Either you give it to him or you dont.


The thief or fugitive whatever hes always found and killed by the hunter.

In my games, the hunter is usually asking if I saw a thief go by just now, while there is a burning thief corpse on the ground, nearby. I might have to let him live long enough, one time.

No, they never come back for the item. It is just a random encounter that give you a random item.
