Who is the best (non-DLC) follower?

I may have accidentally killed my longtime follower Belrand (that guy you can hire in Solitude), a shame, he was with me for most of the journey, except for killing Alduin.

So I was wondering who I should hire next? Who's the best follower in Skyrim?

I would usually sacrifice Ugor, Roggi or Cosnach, but with AFT, I might switch to Nazeem or maybe Bassianus since they are both condescending jerks.

Lydia is great, she's a tank and one of the best. Also, the follower in Solstheim found in the Retching Netch is damn good and as a little added bonus some extra dialogue that's actually pretty good as you travel together. His name is Teldryn Sero (I think I spelled that right).

What? for what game? No, he's vanilla! You can get mods that give him quest etc. But he's as vanilla as they get.

The topic clearly state "Who is the best (non-DLC) follower?". So the discussion is about Followers in vanilla Skyrim without Dawnguard or Dragonborn.

Agreed and I've never seen the question asked this way for SSE, oldrim yes.
BUT even though OP never explained why, they did say (and very clearly I might add) non-DLC. however, as clear as it is, I breezed right over it. let me add another
