I love how pickpocketing still doesn't work...
How many re-releases have we gotten and still this crap system can't even get tweaked to work as it's supposed to lol.

I swear I wont be buying anymore ES games unless they come up with a better system...you know...if they ever release a new one before I die of old age.

90% chance to pickpocket an item....so lets run a test. I quick save and get to work. 30 times, at 90% I get caught 22 times.........................

hmmm

50% chance
I get caught 27 out of 30 times...

Anything less then 50 and i get caught 99.99% of the time.

RNG based gameplay is trash. Either keep it out of the game in future ES games, or find a new system.

Guessing that ES is Elder Scrolls. Not ESG.

It's either a glitch that could be circumvented by using Unofficial Skyrim Patch mod or there's just smth else in the game, like a mod messing up the numbers. Make sure you got nothing installed

I dont think it's a bug from the vanilla game but don't quote me. Either that, or you are just bad luck. 90% actually works as intended for me

I have absolutely NO problems pickin pockets. Everything works as it is intended.

From Uesp,

"Fortify Pickpocket bonuses from apparel and potions may reduce your pickpocketing chance rather than increasing it.
PC Only This bug is fixed by version 2.0.0 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch."

I have NEVER had a single issue with Pickpocketing not working.
joefitts63 Sep 29, 2021 @ 2:33pm
I never noticed, because I can't be bothered to pick pockets. Selling stolen items is a nuisance. Furthermore, it raises your level pretty quickly without providing any combat capability. Not a good way to survive. Doesn't matter late game, but who needs pocket picking income late game?

Or this, also from Uesp

"After taking Rank 5 of the Light Fingers perk, instead of raising the stealing chance, this perk can instead drop it to zero when trying to steal large amounts of gold (around 1600-1700). For example, if you use a trainer to train Archery from 57 to 58, you can use Pickpocket to get your money back. When you have Rank 4 of the Light Fingers perk, the odds are about 62%, but if you take Rank 5, they suddenly drop to zero.
This bug is fixed by version 1.1 of the Official Skyrim Patch."

SSE is running on the latest 1.9.32 patch of Oldrim so this is irrelevant

Im sorry, but this makes no sense. SSE should not be running ANY Oldrim patches. The patches people are talking about are The Unofficial Patch.

There are Unofficial Patches for both LE and SE. Is it possible the OP has installed the LE Unofficial Patch, instead of The SE Unofficial Patch? I wouldn't even think that was something actually doable.

It's not - well, technically it is, but a warning comes up as soon as the game loads telling you to remove it (the old Patch) as it will damage your game. I think any references to an official patch (as opposed to the Unofficial Patch) are referring to the patches that Bethesda released (that resulted in version updates) or are just errors on the part of people who edited or added to the wiki - remember, anyone with some spare time can edit it, and there is no checking as to whether the information is correct or not, so wrong information does creep in (and I have noticed a LOT more of that in the last year and a half).

Nope, 0 mods installed, tottally clean install (in fact no mods have ever been used on this machine) playing through entirely as intended by the developers just for a change. Also on my laptop so didnt bother messing with files that can bloat the saves etc.

Well...playing a thief character is kinda hard without thiefing :D It's also just funny to pay someone thousands for training or something, and then just steal it back when they look away.

USSEP will fix it.
Try this guide up to the five mod stop point
