menu and pov glitch
I made a post yesterday about an unrelated problem, and now that ive gotten that figured out I need some help with bugs in my game. These happen in the vanilla game and with ussep and engine fixes installed. (The mods seemed to help a tiny bit, but not alot.) Basically, my mouse wont select anything in the menu, when i hover over the items it only stays selected for a second and im unable to click it fast enough. The other glitch is that when I try to change my pov it just zooms in then zooms back out. I tried typing enableplayercontrols in the commands bar and I tried changing the key bindings but nothing worked. Hopefully someone else knows how to fix this issue.

Have had both issues in the past, couple times each, hopefully it's the same and this is helpful - the cursor bug for me was a resolution issue, due to running HDMI into a wallmount tv causing a disagreement between my GPU and the game on what-was-where on the screen. I just tried reproducing it but can't seem to anymore - seems like switching to a non-native resolution and back again fixed it at the time, and I really only run up against it when trying to run things in windowed fullscreen.

If I remember right, it might help to do the following:
Go into your Documents folder, then My Games, then Skyrim Special Edition. There's a file there named SkyrimPrefs.ini which informs the game of your setup and so forth. Move the SkyrimPrefs.ini file into a safe place just in case, anywhere out of the Skyrim Special Edition folder, then launch Skyrim SE via the .exe (will be in your Steam directory) to run the Bethesda launcher, so it's able to correctly register your graphics setup. Be sure to double check your quality settings are where you like/need them to be, and continue into the game. That should prompt the creation of a new, accurate SkyrimPrefs.ini file where the old one was.

It also sounds similar to the flashing save games bug in a way, but I think the engine fixes should've taken care of that - might be worth looking into, though

The zooming ping pong was caused by my mouse's key-binding software. For some reason, it would occasionally change the mouse wheel to scroll like 10+ lines per tick instead of the usual 1, so it just went nuts every time I tried to zoom in/out. Skyrim was the only game, or program at all for that matter, where I saw that happen. Wherever your mouse settings are, you should be able to double check if that's the issue.

I wish I had more of an abc type solution for you but it's our beloved Bethesda, after all. Hopefully the rambling helps or puts you on the right track in some way. Good luck!

Im just playing on a laptop, but could it be because the game doesnt recognize my graphics card? Ill see if deleting the prefs ini helps but i dont think it will

If you're using a USB mouse, make sure it's plugged in and connected, then try disabling any gamepads / trackpads / mousepads etc, and only use the one input device while playing. If that doesn't work, and the prefs ini reset didn't help, it could be a driver issue for your mouse or trackpad.

Okay so I looked at my mouse/ touchpad driver and all I see is "Elan I2C filter driver" I tried downloading the touchpad drivers from the manufacturers website and installing them but they didnt show up in device manager after being installed. I dont know why

Okay, I fixed it now. For some reason disabling two finger scroll under touchpad settings worked??? It'll be annoying to change the setting everytime I play the game, but it's better than nothing. I still have the pov issue (I think) but its a lot easier to deal with. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!

Awesome! Yeah, apparently for some reason the game makes input devices fight it out for control, and I hadn't realized it until now but I used to have a crappy lil bluetooth touch/keypad thing until I broke it for completely unrelated reasons lol

Can't say for sure but it was actually around the time the issue cleared up for me... :steamhappy:

Check for any mouse hardware smoothing/acceleration settings for your comp if you keep having the pov craziness. There looks to be a possible fix in another .ini file but I'd have to link you to someone more knowledgeable for that, since it involves adjusting some game stuff and I wouldn't wanna typo something that messed up your files :)
