You can most certainly use the console to spawn and equip mod items. Wearable items must exist in the mod, and by their very nature can be summoned and forcibly equipped just like any vanilla wearable. Such is true for my Amulet of Jurgen Windcaller for my Improved Housecarls and Hirelings mod, which gives those followers who can Shout (also from the same mod) the focus of Jurgen Windcaller, so that Shouting is as effortless as speaking in a loud voice (i.e. spamming Shouts).
It is also this mod which sets her to Essential, so if you have it (I doubt it - hardly anyone does), that's what does it.
As for your current predicament, you should be able to kill her and all the other followers of Namira, if I recall that quest correctly, after saving the priest, so all I can say is get as close to her as possible and click on her in the console to make sure she's selected.
The showinventory command will tell you if you have her selected.
Huh, then I must be doing it wrong somehow?
I first tried opening the console, clicking on her, then typing 'setessential 0' and it said 'no actor ID at 0'.
So then I tried typing 'setessential hernumber 0' and got the same, except obviously instead of 0 it said her NPC number.
Do I have to put a special command in between, in relation to mod content? I know for DLC content that most sites list it as 'xx' at the start, but you need to put in 02, 03 or 04 depending on what DLC it is. Whenever I've tried giving mod content to NPCs, I open the console, click the item to see the ID number, type equipitem itemnumber, click the NPC, hit return and it says 'no content at this number', or whatever it says to say that reference number doesn't contain an item.
My recollection of this quest in the original Skyrim is that you need to kill all of the attended including Eola, then you can interact with the priest to wake him up and send him on his merry way back to Markarth.
I'll try again, but unless I got the number of 0s wrong (since most items have three or four 0s at the start), I can't see how I'm getting her NPC number wrong.
As for follower related mods, I was using both GET: No more dead followers and Awesome Follower Tweaks. I imagine this is fairly redundant though. I'm also using Seraphim body replacer, but I don't think this changes the actor ID as I've been able to equip items to Lydia (the Whiterun housecarl) just fine.
According to both the official and unofficial wikis, Eola's NPC identifier is 0001990F. When I open the console and click on her in game, it displays as " (0001990F).
So I am typing setessential 0001990F 0 and getting 'No actor ID at 0001990F'. I have tried typing this with her selected and not selected.
I also just tried getting her to equip a specific item from GET: No More Dead Followers which allows followers to die, overwriting the mod's innate follower essential status. I clicked on the item to see it's number, typed equipitem itemnumber, clicked on Eola and hit return and it said the item didn't exist. So do I need a special number to put in before a mod item, like how you need 02 for Hearthfire items?
