Yeah, this is my favorite place as well. It's fairly close to Riverwood, which I like. Like you said, there's always hawks flying around.
My actual all-time favorite living place is Proudspire Manor in Solitude - plenty of space for everything, enchanting & alchemy in the basement, overall good architecture.
Never really used playerbuilt houses in the end.

Morthal = can have fishery, amazing for river betty super-poisons.
Other one = never lived there, but I've heard it's too snowy.

If you live at Lakeview Manor with Spouse & children, you may get a scolding from your spouse about the conditions for raising a family in the 'wild'.
Proudspire is the only home I found that your spouse will praise you for selecting as a place to raise a family.
Depends if you want your housecarl in your bed or not ;)
