From the mod description:
INSTALLATION:
NMM or MO, pick your poison.
(You could install manually, but it's a lot of textures/meshes to delete, so I would recommend using a mod manager.)

Then you have to edit your skyrim ini settings, either in your documents/games/skyrim folder, or if you're using Skyrim Flora Overhaul, you have to edit the ini tweaks for the mod located in the Skyrim data folder. Put in these settings

iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=15 (Always change this, or this mod will not work properly)
iMinGrassSize=60 (This is my personal setting, but you can go as high as 100 for extra performance, though the grass will be sparser. Setting your grass below 60 is NOT recommended)

iMinGrassSize changes the density

bAllowLoadGrass=0
fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=7000.0000

Another way to getting the default .ini values back is to delete the Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini and starting the launcher back up to generate them again.

From the Verdant description on the mod page.

"SKYRIM.INI SETTINGS (put under [GRASS]):

iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=15 (Always, even with SFO)
iMinGrassSize=70

(This is my personal setting, but for even more groundcover go as low as 60 for lots of grass density or as high as 100 for extra performance; I will not support or encourage anyone to go lower than 60 ever)"

Lowering the value of iminGrassSize will add more grass and lower FPS, while raising that value will improve fps.

If you didn't add those lines it is probably why your fps went down so much.

but thats only in the vanilla skyrim version i think. I used verdant before in the vanilla version and it was working to change those numbers. Not anymore in SE. Maybe he just copied all the text from the main mod of normal skyrim and paste it in the description of the SE version.

Install Skyrim Flora Overhaul SE, but only the .esp and the .ini, and verdant textures.
In the .ini of SFO you can modify the grass density and affects to verdant, i only use trees the trees of SFO.

And this can boost your FPS http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3229/?

pd: sorry for my english

I have imingrasssize set 20 20, and the grass is still thin.

Looks like the ini settings were ported to a seperate INI file ... I can't tell from the desciption but you might need to edit them there instead. I haven't installed for SSE yet. I'll test it soon.

"I have now included a custom ini file (Verdant - A Skyrim Grass Plugin SSE Version.ini) for easier grass installation. The grass settings I normally require are located in that ini file, which will overwrite your settings to work for verdant!"

Preem also has two pretty hefty sticky posts about setting up, and customizing. Probably worth a good read.
