If you own a house she might be there, or she went back to white run where the jarl is, she will be there

Depends on the circumstances leading up to her disappearance. She is probably dead.

If you told her you wanted to party ways she will return to the house in Whiterun. It can take time for her to travel there so if she is not there when you arrive, just wait a while and she will pop up. Like say you were in Solitude when you parted ways, it will take a few days in game for her to return. If you asked her to wait for you somewhere, you have to go that place and get her back. So that can be tricky. I hope this helps.

it may depend on what mods you're running

I didnt think of that, but i assumed she wasnt dead or im sure the OP would have mentioned it, atleast common sense would have.

You would think, but personal experience would tell me otherwise. When I first started playing on console a couple days after the original was released I lost Lydia to the cold embrace of death. Didn't notice for a little while either.

If she was following you and you were in combat, then whenever to quick travel or load a new area in the game then she will transport to you. If you were in a dungeon, and she doesn't come out with you... then she is probably dead inside. Also note, only you can kill her.

So if you have a follower, be careful with area effect spells. You might end up accidentally killing your follower.

"only you can kill her" - No, not true at all.

type player.moveto a2c94 in the console, she will appear beside you, and if dead, her dead body will appear..

No, that is true. Enemies cannot kill your followers.

Yes, they can. The only reason they typically do not die is because the AI is programmed to stop attacking them once they get incapacitated BUT if they hit them again while they are kneeling then they WILL die. I watched Lydia get pulverized by a giant more than once.

lol, no that is not how enemy AI is programmed to treat downed followers. Followers can only die from your damage. If you had a follower die then it was by your own hand. Bethesda has already confirmed this years ago.

Again, you're wrong. I can get into game real quick and you can spectate me. I will do what I did when I tested it years ago. You will watch her die while I stand by and do nothing. A quick search online would prove you wrong as well.

Climb the 7,000 steps and shout her name from above.
