The game is too dark and I turned my brightness up all the way in game
anyway to get the game any brighter?

The original wasn't as dark as the Special edition

wait it's too dark? the changes to lighting must have made a huge difference, because in the original there was basically no difference between night and day you could see clearly in both.

Yea I might of gotten used to the lighting in Fallout 4 , maybe it well take a week

My monitors brightness was only at 30% and I raised it to 80%

Under [Display] in skyrim.ini:
fGlobalContrastBoost=-0.2
fShadowDirectionalBiasScale=0.4700
fSAOIntensity=9.0000
fSAORadius=225.0000

Makes the shadows cast on characters and objects less dark, and fixes the contrast.

tried those settings. The contrast change helps fix the overly high contrast setting, but the other options dont seem to help the dark lighting.

Then there's something wrong with your GPU, your drivers, or your installation/mods.

I even have character lighting turned off to get rid of the slight unnatural glow.

I know this is an old thread but i want anyone who comes here to see this.

If you find that the game is too dark then just open the console and type in "SG 1.5" without quotations.

This is the "set gamma" command where 1.0 = normal and 1.5 = brighter.

Just wrestled with google for a good half hour before i came across it 😄

This was still an issue for me & the solution still works. Thanks all for doing the legwork.
