What race is your character. Dunmer 50% fire resist cancels vamps 50% fire weakness.

As long as you pass Isran's little sunlight test, you can afaik be a vampire and side with the dawnguard.

Never understood why anybody would side with those vampires.
They have no style, no class and no maners.
The dawnguard have a vision, an ideal and a certain rough-around-the-edges style.
All the vampires have is and unjustified sense of superiority and a truly disgusting castle.
Also, unlike the high and mighty vampires, the dawnguard didn't introduce itself to you by sending a death squad after you...

doesn't matter, pick whichever. you can still become a vampire if you join the dawnguard though

Honestly it comes down to which radiant quests do you like more.

Do not forgot that because you are on pc, the only thing you lose by going dawnguard is the bloodstone chalice buff, you can get everything else (save for the dog followers unique to the vamps) by joining the dawnguard through console commands.

Dawnguard for:
Weapons, such as rune equipment, crossbows, armored trolls and Husky war dogs.
(Also equipment for countering vampires, such as the Dawnguard armor set, and some spells)

Volkihar for:
Stealth, use of magick or the vampire lord form, have bloodcursed elven arrows be usefull, get demonic dogs.

Overall Dawnguard focuses on brute force, and the vampires focuses on magick.
Hope this helped :D

Edit: Siding with the vampires gives you a lot to counter the downsides of vampirism.

I've done both sides, and they're almost exactly the same questwise. Essentially it comes down to two things. Do you want the bloodstobe chalice or the dwemer crossbow, and do you want to be randomly attacked by dawnguard or vampires. Other than that nothing is different
Oh, and if you're dawnguard you can cure Serana. Not that it does anything significant... But it's possible

Vampire, for meta reasons.

You can get upgraded crossbows and anti undead magic if you side with the Dawnguard... But you get the Bow that they talk about the entire story no matter what side you take. Are you gonna want to carry 2 ranged weapons? Also the bow can do AoE undead damage making such magic pointless. The Dawnguard bonuses are redundant.

Side with the vamps and you get a stronger vamp form via items/buffs.

Umm, both sides has their own advantages. And not every advantage applies to every caracter, but in this situation- stealth, I'd go with the vampires.

I haven't done the Dawnguard DLC just yet, but I can become a vampire, and still join the Dawnguards, and also cure myself of vampirism?
