are melee characters extremely hard only for me?
i don't know it's the third time i try to start with a melee character and it's the third time too in which i have to cancel my game after a few hours, because i think the melee combat system in skyrim is really bad. maybe it's just me,but i feel like i can play only as a mage for now,and this is pretty restricting. suggestions? i don't like to drop the difficulty just because i can't play with melee weapons, that would be stupid and definitely not exciting for the health of the gameplay.

p.s. if you are a skyrim fan maybe you can add me because i'm looking for friends who like this game :) also because i have many questions and i think it's stupid to open new threads all the time for little simple trivial questions. thank you!

it's not worth it and you can end up killing a lot of quest givers that way, but yes it's easy to do at high level, everything is too easy at high level in vanilla skyrim :u

have you ever played on legendary?

3rd person when using melee weapons, 1st person when using archery & magic. Also I'm a pot head so use them pots for awesome marksman skills and magic resistance.

Using one handed + block on expert difficulty on my current playthrough. Fights are a lot harder, but I didn't want another sneaky archer that kills enemies before they can even react.

Have to use block a lot, bash at the right moment to interrupt their attacks, and leave an opening for you to hit them. I dunno how I would survive without a shield though :)

I mean, I play Imperial Sword+Shield with heavy armor, with a bit of restoration magic mixed in when things get a bit hot. But I always start the game on master difficulty. I don't see much of an issue. The moment I got a shield I was set. Unless I encounter an enemy a much higher level than me. But I don't see how some people have so much trouble with it. I just breeze through it all with a couple hacks, slashes, and bashes.

Play 2handed weapons. It is a little hard at the beginning but you are getting OP af later.

You must be a casual gamer. I only play melee characters on expert+ difficulty and I have no real problems.

Duel wielding is where the true damage shows up.

I've been playing since release (started on PS3 and then switched to PC and have been playing ever since) and I've always played a HEavy armor , melee tank and I haven't had any problems , just get your blacksmith level up to 100 (dagger exploit) , put your skill points into health and Stamina and then level your 1- or 2 Handed (depending on what you prefer) and Heavy Armor up as well (If you use 1 handed weapons I suggest using a shield as well) , get a lot of Health potions and tank and slay your way through Tamriel

If you are a mele build then use shouts. You can use them to cover distance faster, or knock some one down, freeze them or what ever is clever.

Use paralysis potions to keep tougher foes down.

My last play through in the original game was "pure mage" so no melee, no bows etc. However, I've also done numerous archer, spell sword, axe & shield and 2 Handed characters. I've gone Spell + Axe in my current game, however the melee aspect of the game does seem somewhat glitchier than I remember.

Examples of this are:

- I've visually dodged a melee hit, yet still take damage as if hit - sometimes from comically far away.
- I've been the subject of an NPC's "finisher" melee move, despite not being close.
- My Heavy Armour skill has barely progressed as I try to dodge, not block, as I always have a spell in my left hand. However, I find that my character often behaves like he's wading through treacle at random moments during combat. I.e. I side-step and attack, but I'm suddenly dead slow (I've not been hit yet) I even checked a few times to make sure I'd not accidentally tapped Caps Lock, but I hadn't. Not encumbered or under any effects either.
- I can sometimes visually hit a target right in front of me, but no hit is registered, it's like the visual range of my axe when swung, doesn't match the collision mesh.
- I also find that even vs. low level foes, only my power attack will hurt them. I.e. I attack a bandit with an initial power attack, taking them down to 1/3rd health with that single hit. My follow-up "normal" strikes are doing a tiny fraction of that damage. I have no perks yet making my Power Attack super damaging vs. my normal attack.

Oh, despite being 60fps locked, I still see lots of physics errors, flying Mammoths, Giants, Wolves etc. are common place

So, yeah, something feels a little off with Melee Combat in SSE vs. normal, not a major problem but I often see the weirdness listed above. Still being a low-level and relatively weak character that I am, really exaggerates things of course. As suddenly taking a hit when actually out of melee range, or getting bogged down moving or having my attacks do less damage than they should can mean death and reload.

Scoob.

Still awesome if you use a 2handed sword like Guts.
