Fortify skill effect bug (sort of "fixed")
I went a little crazy with some Alchemy brewing and made some pretty overpowered enchanted gear, so I decided to dump my stuff in the trash (aka Lydia) in order to create some new armor that would provide a more fair and challenging experience for tackling the DLC.

Problem is that for some reason my Enchanting skill is buffed way over 100 despite being sober from potions for over a month of in-game time and as you may know there are no such enchantments that buff your enchanting skill. To be safe though I stripped completely naked and put everything I owned into a container, walked out of the cell, reloaded the game, but my skill was still bugged.

What's even more strange was that when I check my Active Effects under the Magic section, there is absolutely nothing listed that indicates any increase to my Enchanting skill whatsoever, but the Skills screen does not reflect that, instead giving me a number that is way past the point of being acceptable. I also noticed that making the skill Legendary doesn't reset it back to what it should be either.

To my knowledge none of the mods that I'm using buff my skills in such a drastic way, but here they are anyway:
  • Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch
  • Climates of Tamriel
  • Immersive Movement
  • Static Mesh Improvement Mod
  • True Storms Special Edition - Thunder Rain and Weather Redone
  • Lampposts of Skyrim:Special Edition
  • FOS - Forests of Skyrim
  • INIGO
  • Immersive Patrols SE
  • The Forgotten City
  • The Paarthurnax Dilemma
  • Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim
  • Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers
  • Enhanced Blood Textures
  • Diverse Dragons Collection
  • Bandolier - Bags and Pouches Classic
  • A Quality World Map
  • H.A.S.T.E SE
  • Skyland - A Landscape Texture Overhaul
  • Imperious - Races of Skyrim
  • Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul
  • Realistic Water Two
  • Followers Level Indifinitely

Is there something I can do about this that wouldn't set me an atrocious number of hours that reloading an old save would accomplish? Magical console commands to make all my problems go away? :vvvvvv_violet:

Why not just use console commands to set the Enchanting level lower?

player.setskill Enchanting 100 should do it. It's been a while since I had to use those kind of commands.

Nope, console commands will only kill your save.

Your only real options are to either live with your self inflicted silliness or reload.

I just tried this but unfortunately whether the skill is 15 or 100 I'm still "cursed" with a large green number. Although I DID get the idea to set my skill to a negative number in order to force that bonus to be irrelevant though! Not exactly what you had in mind but the advice ended up helping me anyway so thanks!

I may have to live with my terrible mistakes yeah. I'll play around with my workaround for a while to see if it has any unintended consequences before I decide to reload.

"Way over" is what exactly? Do you have the black magic book activated from Dragonborn? That one increse Enchanting skill.

Black Book: The Sallow Regent
Seeker of Sorcery: All spells cost 10% less magicka. Enchantments are 10% more powerful.

Other than that it is a mod causing it as nothing in the vanilla game can increse the actual enchanting numbers on the perk tree above 100.
