Gray screen then crash on startup
Hey, I've bought the game today and whenever I start it, a gray screen shows up and then it crashes. I think I'm outdated, but I really hope that's not the case. Are there any solutions? I know I have plenty of space for the game.
Here's my specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 3.00 GHz
8G Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS

You should be able to run it. Here's a video with a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 3.00 GHz and 4GB ram. Also; Google canyourunit for future ref on games relating to your system.

ooops....here's the link

Now for your main question.
Ok so are you; using mods? on windows 10?....nm

do this..... please go to the beginning of these Skyrim SE forums and look at the "Pinned Topics"
they are very helpful written by talented, knowledgeable people who have many thousands of hours with this game. After reading please come back to this thread that you started (it's yours now) and we will answer any questions you have. :whiterun:

I don't have any mods, but I am on Windows 10. I haven't been able to even see the actual game's main menu screen, since I've had this crash every launch. I've been looking at the Crash Resolution thread and tried almost everything. Still no luck

Not just the crash resolution thread. Since you just bought the game please look at the threads for all the proper procedures and settings for Windows 10. For example, you need to make sure all your graphic and sound drivers are up to date. May as well get it all correct now so you can enjoy the game. I've a pretty powerful setup but each time I buy an older game I have to make tweaks and if I'm not sure about something I research it. Fortunately Skyrim is so popular to this day that there is tons of information out there from some well informed folks. Even without mods research/reading is paramount. There is a little work involved but IMO it's well worth it.

Utilize the Pinned Topics for the info but maybe you can ALSO read this as it may help save some resources as well IF you are not going to be using Game Bar, DVR in your game for example.

Here's one maybe you can start with

Please let us know how it goes.

I've tried several different methods and no luck. I'm going to try to reinstall the game, I really hope this works.

If you have more than one drive try installing it there

oh, did you execute the VC++ installers in the "Redist" folder (in Skyrim Steam folder) as administrator? reboot afterwards.

I can't find any "Redist" folder.. like I said earlier, I've never even been in-game
Vlad 254 Dec 29, 2019 @ 10:16pm
Ooops, my bad...apologies. Steam changed that. look in \Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\

I found what you were talking about. When I use the "vc_redist.x64" the setup fails. It's saying that another version of the product is already installed so it cannot continue

Look at the 2nd link in my 2nd post and go to "Fix 6". You probably need to make sure you have right version. I have not messed with Visual C in a long while but I have seen folks have problems getting theirs in order. Skyrim can get finicky to say the least if Visual C is not correct. I don't remember it being that difficult but individual instances vary. Read carefully and google is your friend.
Please let us know your progress and if you solved it.

Edit: your problem is not unique to you at all. Google is loaded with search results on this subject/issue. Don't be discouraged.

Hey so I installed the 2015-2019 versions of Visual C and restarted my computer. Still no luck.

I can't find a way to install just the 2015 version.

I have three folders in my Steamworks Shared - CommonRedist - vcredist

2010
2012
2015

2010 is empty, the other two both have the files, what does yours look like ?.

It still says that I have the 2015 version, but I don't. I'm trying to uninstall nearly all of the Visual C stuff on my computer.
tramper Dec 30, 2019 @ 12:17pm
Have you tried doing a Windows update ?
void Dec 30, 2019 @ 12:21pm
I'm all up to date and I checked if I was.
