I recommend that you use mod manager to install your mods.
- Vortex is the official mod manager of Nexus Mods. It has it's quirks, but it works.
- Mod Organizer 2 is alternative mod manager for Bethesda games. It is my personal favorite.
There is a pinned topic with links to official tutorials of both tools. Pick the one that looks best and we will help you through with it.
USLEEP USSEP will fix a bunch of issues. However, it would be best if you would describe which sort of issues you are facing in the game. They might be related to settings and we can help you to figure them out.
seems I have the ability to use them. also I can;t figure how the heck to dismount my horse. I finally got off it using the C key but the game went nuts and floated the horse up into the sky until it disappeared, never did respawn at any stable or that location again.
I'm curious if you use mods, probably not so since you are asking about installing USSEP. So grab SKYUI also and/or watch this video for the many uses this excellent mod has to offer besides the most common uses people are aware of, it just may help your favorites as I just make one press of a button and all my faves pop up categorized.
UPDATE: oops, here's the proper link

finally horse dismounting has been an issue for many in skyrim for some time now. There are some tricks until you get it fixed, just google that problem.
and like Iilja says, Welcome to modding. Feel free to ask questions right here where you started this topic, it's your thread now. And please take a few minutes and read the pinned topics that are listed when you first enter these same Skyrim Special Edition Forums. They are loaded with great info from some of the top and most knowledgeable people who constantly help folks in these forums.
Edit - and I see you already found Nimrod's excellent guide!
Yes, I did. Still too used of writing "USLEEP" from 32bit side. :)
yes, I get the joke, but I'm making sure you don't get the wrong patch
