How is it possible to convert a mod with a fomod installtation?
I just tried to do such a thing. I converted all the animations, meshes, and texture files (the latter just to be safe), and then tried to install it. However, the fomod interface didn't come up, and no files were actually put into my skyrim folder. Even manually putting one of the esp files in my data folder didn't allow me to pull it up inside the creation kit to convert it.

Now, I've seen mods with fomod set-ups being successfully converted, but how do you do this yourself? I'm trying to convert a mod that's only available for SE, but I don't have the expertise to do it myself. Worse yet, the thing contains THREE THOUSAND FILES!!!! That itself means if I had to do something MANUALLY, it would just be impossible. I mean, simply converting all the animation files took like 10 to 20 minutes, for each folder!

I've tried to do a search for this, but I haven't come up with anything. Obviously, it can be done because other people do it, but I can't find any information online as to how they did this for some reason.

DarkLadyLexy has a set of instructions for converting here:

https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/User:Darkladylexy/ModList_Page

Scroll down a bit to find the "Converting Old Plugins" section. I have "SSE CK Fixes" installed, so don't need to bring in Wrye Bash for this, but she gives instructions for doing it both with and without CK Fixes (note that you'll need the CK from bethesda.net, not the one from the Steam Tools menu, which is for LE). If a mod needs conversion it's most commonly the .esp that needs fixing rather than the individual assets. If you need to convert assets, you'll want to grab something like Cathedral Assets Optimizer.

That page makes no mention of fomods, but it does offer an alternative to converting esp files with the creation kit. I'm going to try that, once my back-up finishes.

I misread that page. Either way, I was able to get the esp converted. I did this by making the files for one of the fomod options into an isolated mod. That allowed me to install it, convert the esp, and even run fnis for it. However, I've discovered that for some reason, over 400 of the animation files are missing. My game still runs with it installed, and I can even test out animations, but using certain ones makes my game crash immedietly.

So that's great, I'm working with incomplete files. Either way, at least I found a work-around to the fomod thing.
