Am I the only one who thinks Oblivion is better than Skyrim?
Oblivion had custom magic, oblivion gates, the amazing imperial city (who could forget "welcome to the arena!"?) and the best expansion, Shivering Isles. Plus the armor looked cooler and the combat was more challenging.

combat was awful in oblivion and having to close oblivion gates constantly was also annoying but yeah it had some really good moments too
i totally ignored the gates. Closing them was not my idea of fun. Wandering around being an orc vampire was.

I loved, loved, loved the gates...until i didn't. So I'd wait until LV 30+ to go to Kvatch... :D I'm sure you can mod them out but that was when I was a purist about it.

I don't think I've ever played an Orc in any TES game. Something to consider some day, after Argonian anyway.

one of the few orcs i have played. I played him dumb, evil, and fearing magic. He was too evil to go and pray at a temple and he kept running into those things that cause stupidity (wights?). So as i played his intelligence got lower and lower. When i was coming to my end of playing oblivion, i was looking around for a potion to restore his lost intelligence. I actually loved this game mechanic. Made a memorable playthrough.

LOL -- that does sound pretty memorable. A dumb, vampire Orc. Well A+ on creativity :)

I pretty much only did the mandatory ones

i think the first one in Kvatch is manditory. I do remember doing that one. I ignored the main quest, though. Never finished it.
I think overall Skyrim is a better game. But I still prefer Oblivion. Part of it is nostaligia. It was my first Elder Scrolls game. I liked the story/quests and music in Oblivion a little more than Skyrim's. And the world, Cyrodiil is my perfect home. Man, the Imperial City is fabulous! I also enjoyed Oblivion's DLC a lot, Shivering Isles remains one of my all time favorites
Oblivion is my favorite, mostly because...

...I find the leveling system in Oblivion (and Morrowind) to be completely horrible.

...of the horrendously abusable leveling. Being able to level 14 skill to 100 at level 1 was ridiculous. The one thing Skyrim got right was making you level.
No. I prefer Morrowind over Oblivion. I never liked Oblivion, honestly. But I have to admit Skyrim is the best TES, even if it's simplified over its predecessors. There is something about it that simply absorbs you after you accept it's more "casual" aproach.

i think Skyrim has the advantage of being even more open to your personal preferences. You can do almost anything right away. And eventually you can do everything, like a god. And why not? The npcs can't die, and you can't be limited in any way. You are Jesus...I am sorry the Dovakin or whatever they call you.

What do people love about Morrowind. I never understood.

it is not your typical Nord-medieval world, for one thing. It is a unique game space. Another: it doesn't hold your hand. You have to earn what you get by paying attention to details and such. And you can almost do anything, including killing the gods if you so desire. Unfortunately, it has aged as well as an old Gaucho who spent 60 years in the sun. Even with mods, it is an ugly mess of a game.

Yes, you are (the only to think that)...

...Concerning about BEST GAMEPLAY (always talking about TES games), the best games were back then, to the past: "Daggerfall" & "Morrowind".

(Although, I was hating their provinces, where the story took place).

Oblivion was to me, probably THE MOST boring of all - walking around a large province to... destroying Oblivion Gates??? WHO CARES? ...That was all about? "Great scenario"...

As for Skyrim now, the main story is nice (I always loved DRAGONS to RPG games). But, the rest DLCs are the "key" to me, for making Skyrim the best - that "Hearthfire" DLC... is amazing! Large scale Civil War battles??? OH YEAH!

As for the PROVINCE itself... I was dreaming a decade to see (and play) a TES game set on the frozen North... and now, I have it!
i downloaded Daggerfall for free from some site and did play it a while. It is a huge game with a-lot of options. I thought the mouse-based attack made sense. Unfortunately, it is incredibly ugly. Almost too much so. i plan on giving it another try, someday.

It is how hardcore that game is. My only gripe is the hit detection which is absolutely dreadful. But you wanna feel like you are in an actual living and realistic world, Morrowind is the only game that is capable of delivering that experience. I also like Morrowind's character design more than Oblivion, for some reason.

In newer games (Skyrim) there is simply no concequence; you don't have to think before you do something. Everything is handed to you with little to no effort. You are this super-powerful person than nothing can defeat. Go to this place that I will mark in your map, follow this marker that will magically take you there, talk to this person, do some small job for them, become their leader. Want to become the leader of the rival faction? No problem! Everyone but you will be oblivious of it and treat you the same.

In Morrowind, you read through paragraphs of dialog, making sure you follow through to what you are being told, you are given a vague hint of what you have to do and good luck! No map, quest markers or nothing. You chose a faction, you automatically cannot be with their enemies. That's just a small detail of why morrowind is so amazing, and reason why it is not for everyone too.

I myself cannot play Morrowind anymore. Life, bills, responsibilities and adulting happened unfortunately and I have become a casual gamer. Is that or being homeless XD Still hardcore, pure-blood gamer at heart though, as I often put games over other necessities.

Wrong, Elder Scrolls is fantasy, you want a living, realistic world? Play Mount And Blade. If you want the open world feel, Kingdom Come Deliverance will give you that.
